Daniel Welch back in the hot seat

Welch Motorsport has confirmed it will have both of its drivers on the grid at Donington Park this weekend (18/19 April).

Engine gremlins curtailed Andy Wilmot’s running at Brands Hatch while Dan Welch’s weekend failed to get started after a broken foot forced him out of the season opener.

Now the squad believes its engine issues have been identified and corrected, plus Welch himself is going to race through the pain barrier at Donington.

“I have two broken bones in my foot, including the metatarsal, and another small bone in my back,” the latter of which Welch says likely happened in his huge GT crash in Dubai earlier this year. “They haven’t completely healed but I’ve just got to man up and get on with it.

“We have made a real breakthrough with the engine too and believe we’ve found the problem which caused so much frustration at Brands Hatch. We changed everything over the winter and we were pretty surprised by the setback, but now we’re feeling quietly optimistic about the weekend ahead.”

Confirmation from Welch follows news from Infiniti that it too will field two cars this weekend, meaning the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will boast an entry of 29 cars at Donington Park.
