City slickers take to the streets of Newcastle

  • Touring car, sportscar and single-seater take to the streets
  • Three rising young stars give shoppers the guided tour
  • Less than a week until all-action BTCC speeds into Croft

A week before they take to the track at Croft, three cars from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, Ginetta Junior Championship and MSA Formula hit the ‘Toon’ in Newcastle at the weekend to give shoppers a tantalising foretaste of the high-octane action to come.

The BTCC and its associated support series – Ginetta Juniors, MSA Formula, the Renault UK Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Ginetta GT4 SuperCup – will make their annual north-eastern pilgrimage next weekend (27/28 June), for the biggest meeting on Croft’s season calendar.

As a warm-up, Tom Ingram’s Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis BTCC racer, Dan Zelos’ Ginetta Junior sportscar and Sennan Fielding’s MSA Formula single-seater – the latter two cars both run by JHR Developments – travelled to Newcastle as part of a scene-stealing display in Grainger Street, in the heart of the city’s shopping district.

There, they attracted numerous admiring glances, as Ingram, Zelos and Fielding all spent time showing inquisitive passers-by around their respective ‘offices’. The 380bhp BTCC car in particular was a hit with younger fans, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity to climb behind the wheel, grab an autograph or two and snap a ‘selfie’ with the stars.

BTCC tickets at Croft cost just £13 for Saturday (27 June), £27 for Sunday (28 June) or £33 for the whole weekend, and can be purchased on the gate.
