Crowds lap up record Power Maxed Coventry Motofest

Power Maxed Coventry Motofest is a celebration of all things automotive; from vintage cars and bikes, to live displays by current race trucks and irreplaceable supercars.

For one weekend in June, the city quite literally comes alive, with the ring road closed to the public for MSA sanctioned competition runs, and demonstrations of some of the most famous cars of all time.

This year’s iteration was the most popular to date, and smashed all records for a free-to-visit motoring event in the UK, with almost 230,000 visitors across the two-day event. Saturday saw around 140,000 people visit the festival, almost doubling last year’s number of 75,000.

This was down, in no small part, to BTCC-superstar Jason Plato taking to the streets in his current Sterling Insurance with Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra. The record-breaking crowds flocked almost 10-deep to get a glimpse of the most successful British racing driver of all time (by wins), and were treated to a spectacular display of race launches and fast-paced laps of the ring road circuit.

The Power Maxed Zone saw a number of pieces of automotive exotica on display, including Plato’s race-used NGTC-spec Astra, and also gave fans the opportunity to meet the man himself, as he represented Sterling Insurance on their official launch weekend, letting fans know that their website (www.sterling-insurance.co.uk) is ready to go.

Car cleaning aficionados were also able to get their hands on Worx Tools’ new Hydroshot, an innovative new cable free pressure cleaning system, and the perfect accompaniment to Power Maxed cleaning products, ahead of the announcement of their sponsorship of the team earlier this week.

A slightly damp Sunday saw Ricky Collard, son of Sterling Insurance with Power Maxed Racing’s other driver, Rob Collard, take to the street circuit in the Astra, with almost 90,000 braving the torrential rain for a glimpse of the current BTCC car in action.

Adam Weaver, Managing Director of Automotive Brands parents of Power Maxed and Steel Seal Head Gasket Fix and Team Principal for Sterling Insurance with Power Maxed Racing, said: “It’s incredible to be a part of something so special. I couldn’t be more pleased that so many others feel the same way, as demonstrated by their attendance.

“We expected it to beat last year but only by a little, so to go past it and then in turn exceed 200,000 is really quite staggering. In fact we were so surprised, we all had the numbers checked and checked again, just to make sure!

“It’s a fitting reward for James, Darren and all their wonderful team at MotoFest that put so much effort in, throughout the year. They make the event what it is, not for financial gain either, all for the love of vehicles and the city of Coventry.”

Power Maxed MotoFest Coventry is a two-day festival dedicated to the city’s motoring heritage, taking place on the first weekend of June.

As the largest free urban motorsport festival in the UK, it brings live motorsport, including official championship rounds of various race series, classic and performance vehicles, and the cutting edge of automotive innovation right into the heart of the UK’s Motor City, free for everyone to enjoy across the weekend.
