EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MATT NEAL

Ahead of the penultimate race weekend of the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship campaign, the Official BTCC website chatted to Halfords Yuasa Racing driver Matt Neal in an exclusive interview.

Providing insight into the life of a BTCC driver, particularly during the current season, Neal discusses a range of topics, including his relationship with team-mate Dan Cammish, role within the squad and how he’s feeling about the year so far.

“It’s a team game. Of course, the fire still burns in me and I still want to win races and championships if possible but you’ve got to be a realist. And I think, over the last decade, that’s been our major strength against the opposition and why we’ve been so successful – we work as a unit, for better or worse. Hopefully that’s going to be a key asset going into these final two rounds.”

The 53-year-old also talked through his opinion on the series’ upcoming 2022 switch to hybrid power:

“It excites me as a driver because it’s something else to think about and another challenge. Now, I think there’s no alternative  – you’ve got to do it. Whatever the cost is, you’ve got to. The automotive world will be in a totally different place in five years time than it is now. We’re in a changing world and that’s having an influence.”
