James Cole’s racing career began in the Formula Ford GB Championship, making his debut in 2008 before going on to take the title in 2009 – ahead of IndyCar champion Joseph Neugarden. After graduating first to British Formula 3 and then Formula 2, the Liverpudlian made the switch to tin-tops in 2013 in a fledgling Team HARD Vauxhall Insignia.
Cole scored points in five out of the 15 rounds he contested in 2013, with a highest-placed finish of 13th, before moving to the United Autosports team for the following season. A part campaign in 2015 for Motorbase Performance saw James break into the top ten at Silverstone in a Ford Focus ST.
For 2016, Cole was part of Silverline Subaru BMR Racing’s quartet, piloting one of the new factory-backed Subaru Levorg GTs. After a difficult first half of the campaign for the outfit, the team found its footing.
Cole claimed a handful of points finishes and returned in the Subaru for 2017. He enjoyed a purple patch mid-season, culminating in a maiden BTCC victory at Rockingham.
For 2018, Cole makes a return to Motorbase, piloting one of its trio of new Ford Focus RS’.
