Hi,

I want to raise the issue of mentioning other sites, or linking to them on the message boards. While I understand there is a reason for not wanting links to other places to be put on here incase people start posting all sorts of random websites, I'd like to ask that the mods relax a little on it as it is causing some members, including myself, a fair bit of annoyance and frustration.

I have copied this from the rules thread;
Forum Rules
1. Please do not post links/addresses etc. of other websites/their stories unless it is a credible news source - eg. the following are permitted: crash.net; autosport.com; regional newspapers' websites). "Cut and paste" websites are a no no!
Personally I have fallen foul by posting a link to something at Crash, I have been told of links to Autosport being not allowed by others as well. I also cannot seem to find a thread where someone asked about a TCT item, which leads me to think it may have been removed as well. Both Autosport and Crash are very well known motorsport news sites, and although TCT is not on the "permitted" list, it is used by many forum members and is trusted as being correct, so I personally see no reason why we can't mention it if it is in connection to a discussion or story.

I'm not asking that we are given free reign to post whatever we like, all I am asking is that we aren't as restricted with names we are or aren't allowed to mention. This is a fans forum so surely anything that helps us fans to enjoy the series or learn more about various goings-on is a good thing?

You can post links from whatever site you like . . .

. . . it just needs to be from a credible news source. Those are the rules aren't they ?

If a mod takes action on a link from a "credible news source" then it is obviously an error.

Any other site that reveals BTCC news is prohibited on this site.
Best you don't post a link, but rather copy and paste the news (or snippets of the news) onto this forum. It's what I do and no one ever seems to have much trouble at all. :)

Perhaps it depends on the mod and the mood they are in then. As I say, I have got a telling off for posting a link to something on Crash to do with the 2010 BTCC dvd, and I know there is at least 1 other person who says they have had a message regarding something they mentioned at Autosport.

I think you must be mistaken, have you read the rules ?

Forum Rules
1. Please do not post links/addresses etc. of other websites/their stories unless it is a credible news source - eg. the following are permitted: crash.net; autosport.com; regional newspapers' websites). "Cut and paste" websites are a no no!

2. Please do not use bad language when posting.

3. Please avoid text speak when posting and also be clear in your post.

4. Please keep on topic when posting in threads (the odd bit of banter we’re cool about but if it goes on too much we will close the thread).

5. Allow people to give their opinion without taking it personally – if you feel someone is being offensive then let us know by PM.

6. Personal attacks will be deleted and the member(s) responsible warned/banned.

7. Those starting arguments will find their post deleted and themselves being warned/banned.

8. Please try to avoid mis-leading other members with daft rumours, eg: “I think I heard someone’s brother’s sister’s uncle who is mate’s with the bloke who runs the hot dog stall say blah blah…but I could be wrong.” The thread will just be deleted. And you’ll look silly.

9. Do not attempt to post using a false identity - eg. a driver's name. You will be banned.

10. If you have a complaint then let us know via a PM and we’ll happily look into it.

The whole links thing isn't consistently moderated and ends up very confusing what links can and cannot be posted.

Best thing to do, don't post it at all :)

Says you with 587 posts :p haha

This link thing is a bit of a pain. I've fallen foul of this, apparently, by stating a quote from TCT a few days ago, and this was removed and a message sent stating that I had violated the rules. If Autosport has also been removed on this forum, c'mon mods - what CAN we discuss if you suppress all sites except for this one?? All we get is people saying 'how do you know this?' and 'where did you hear that'! Let's open this forum up to more sites to avoid this confusion. I don't understand why we can't mention more sites than those mentioned in the rules!

According to the rules you can . . . the 2 sites in the rules are examples . . .

I think that what is meant by cut and paste sites are sites that re-use other peoples news . . sites that have their own journalists and write there own articles should be OK. IMO.

Raptor, i know exactly what you mean and we've quoted the same rules, however what the likes of James, myself, and no doubt others as well is that there doesn't seem to be a uniform understanding of this particular rule, and I'd like it if the mods could be a bit more relaxed about what they say can and can't be mentioned

i don't want to be on a forum where everything and anything are allowed, but equally i'd like to be able to mention something thats been seen on sites that almost all of us on here use and trust without the risk of having things censored or getting told i've done wrong

I think it's pretty straightforward. It's obvious which sites out there are amateurish and just fill their pages by stealing from proper media (I think the nickname cutandpaste.com is used in the industry). And why should they take the glory? Some might try and make some of their own news but mostly it's a no-news story, inaccurate, badly researched with very poor English and next to no journalistic skills or a mixture of all of those. They just aren't credible therefore.

main reason folks look towards other sites and post from other sites, imo is due to this one being a good bit slower in updating there news page,

i dont post on here often as theres waaay to many rules in place to stop the forum being what it could be,

everyone jumps on the dont speculate about drivers teams bandwagon, but if we were to do that then the forum would have NO posts in the closed season, there has to be some kind of chat about what if and what about? this year aint been as bad as i have seen it which is a good step forward,
maybe get a few users out the woodwork if it continues that way
