Hello Mr. Gow,

I'm sure must be sick of the oft-repeated questions about the Birmingham Superprix, although my question pertains to it only in part. Obviously in obtaining the legal right to close the roads in Birmingham the council had to amend the Road Traffic Act - a long and convoluted process, from the look of the debate transcripts - and while these provisions are still in place today, cost is obviously the big reason why we'll probably never see it again.

As you may be aware, on Thursday a debate took place in Westminister regarding amending the Road Traffic Act to make it easier for motorsport to take place on public roads in the UK.

British government announces consultation into closed road motorsport - F1SA (http://www.f1sa.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28218:f1--british-government-announces-consultation-into-closed-road-motorsport&catid=1:f1&Itemid=157)

Currently, the only event of its kind is the Colin McRae stages up here in Scotland, but hopefully - if at the end of this three month review - things could be changed to allow it to take place anywhere in the UK.

My questions are thus:

1) Given the MSA's involvement, along with Jackie Stewart and Nigel Mansell amongst others, do you or the BTCC entity have any plans to put your influence behind it? Either as another big name promoter of the idea, or as some sort of consultants?

2) From a purely hypothetical point of view (financial issues aside) could this amendment, if passed, allow for road races of the scale seen in the Birmingham Superprix for championships like the BTCC? (As opposed from 'small' single-car events like road rallies).

3) With ever-more draconian noise regulations limiting track time at circuits like Brands Hatch, would you and/or the BTCC have interest in road races if and when it became financially viable?

4) Do you think I ask too many boring questions?

Looking forward to the racing this weekend, delighted to be able to watch qualifying live. I hope you enjoy the weekend as much as I am sure to!

Thanks,
Simon

1) Naturally we 100% support the proposal and have fully endorsed it politically and publicly within the process.

2) Unfortunately one cannot put aside the financial issues in your question, as the ever-increasing cost of putting on a major race event on closed public roads (of the scale like the Birmingham SuperPrix) will continue to be the greatest stumbling-block - just as it is now. If it were not then the SuperPrix would likely still be running, as the necessary legislative amendments remain in place for it.

3) It would be naive to think that an event on closed-roads, close to residential areas, would not be subject to similar strict noise regulations. Besides, the BTCC does not have noise issues and we actually run slightly below the specified limit.

4) Not yet.....
