View Full Version : F1 Champs

Now that JV has spat his dummy a la Alain Menu (Last race for Renault!) and won't race at Japan - although you can't really blame the guy - this means there will only be 1 former champion racing (who also happens to be the current champ and most likely the new champion as well).
I don't see how this can be good for the series really and if Schumacher makes his point in Japan and Jaques cant get a drive next year then this is going to be the case for at least another 16 months or so.
The situation isn't helped by the fact Schumacher's won so many times meaning since Prost in 93 there's only been Hill and Hakkinen other than JV and MS.
As I cant see Monsieur Prost or Damon or Mika making a comback next year and being realistic the number one is still going to be on that red car next season I think its even more important that someone tries to find JV a drive .... there's a lot of talk of JPM to McLaren but I don't know how likely that is. Although can you see JV wanting to drive for Jordan or Minardi - which seem to be the only teams with seats at the minute.
Any opinions........?

Don't worry John, after Senna died, there were 0 former champions on the grid in 1994, untill Moansell turned up for a couple of races.

We can only hope Schuey retires, after all the FIA have spent the last 5 years allegedly helping Ferrari bore the pants off us all - then take the pee out of the fans by fixing races (probably just to give us something to talk about, there wasn't much else in the way of racing) and just when things get interesting, "oh, by the way here's a new ruling on tyres".
Hey presto! Bridgestone win races again!
If I was Max or Bernie, I'd be saying: "Right, Michael, you've had your 6-title wet dream, now *!@$ off and let's have some racing!"
(Wonder how many times Ferrari threatened to quit F1 during those 5 years? Still, it's sooooo Machiavellian)

If Shuntmaker snr. retired, there'd be at least six drivers with a chance of the title, notwithstanding, teams like Sauber and Jaguar on an upslope. Stick J V in next years Ferrari, pay Shuntmaker snr. to join the FIA as a retired driver helping rewrite the rulebook, sit back and enjoy.
Come on Schuey give us back our sport !!!!!!

I'd love to see what rules he'd be writing!
"All drivers are allowed one move to defend their position, however that move may involve several steering inputs, either to the left or the right"
"All drivers must not overtake under a yellow flag, unless they are overtaking and cannot see the flag because they are looking the other way"
"Incidents involving two or more cars, that are deemed to be avoidable, will be penalised strongly, unless the driver is sitting in a red car, in which case they will be issued with a suitably arbitary punishment"
"All bodywork must conform to strict regulations, unless there is a championship at stake"
I'm sure there'd be plenty more...

kevin ritson, I've watched every Grand Prix this season at whatever stupid hour of the day some of them and I thought it was only me with the same opinions you have so concisely stated.

Stig, I assume you already read Autosport but the first page I head for is "Fifth Column". Apart from being one of the finest Motorsport writers, Nigel Roebuck is not one to follow the herd when assessing Michael Schumacher, unlike James "This Is The Greatest Achievement Ever In Formula 1" Allen.
Check out his column on their website, always good for opinion and knowledge (if perhaps a little too vocal on the party political front)
