From today's Autosport:

A memorial service in honour of 1991 BTCC Championship winner Will Hoy will be held at St Luke's Church, Sydney Street, London, SW3 at midday on Wednesday March 26. Friends, fans and acquaintances are all welcome.

I hope to go

I won't make it, but I genuinely hope a great many people whose lives were enhanced by Will Hoy are able to pay their respects.
I strongly suspect that will be the case.

I am sure the church will be packed

Quite right, too. Will Hoy may not have been driving before his passing, but he's one of those names, for me, always associated with Touring Cars, whatever his other achievements.

I agree - especially as when he wasnt driving last year he was still around at the circuits due to his Honda and ITV commitments. Just wish Id said something to him at Croft when I saw him, but didnt think anything of it as obviously his illness was totally unexpected.

Does anyone know if theres an address for messages etc to be sent? There was an Email address published before Christmas but I mean a postal address for cards.

I'm not sure, why don't you try somebody at willhoyracing.com

With you John - never had the privelage.
These ****** things are so surprising and unexpected.

Also - I know this was discussed before but cant remember if a conclusion was drawn, what about some sort of memorial this season?

The Stig

Should ought to, though in what form or where and how not certain. Will Hoy was one of those names, like Rouse, Soper, Syttner, Harvey et al of the old school. Would a permanent memorial at one the circuits be approporiate.

Maybe - but where?

Also what about a cup - like The Will Hoy Trophy for most outstanding newcomer or something. As in not one you score points for but a special recognition trophy of some kind.

Just a thought

Sounds a great idea!

Does he have a straight or a bend named after him at a track if not that could be another thing to look at.

Naturally any passing of a great sportsman is not easy as we all regard them as family and with Barry Sheene not well over here at the moment we can only hope he is not suffering.

Are there any corners without names at the moment? All I can think of is 7A&B at Mondello.

Thats two free;)

How often did Will Hoy race there, wouldn't this idea be better at a British circuit where the fans perhaps have more of an empathy.
Can't think of any current turns etc un-named, maybe replace the name of a corporation.

Sorry about Stig didn't get my bearings wright.

They have done that down here changed a bend or a straight from corporate to drivers name.

The trophy idea is the best to me!

The Stig

Love to see either, but mustn't forget to consider the wishes of the Hoy family

I can't seem them not supporting any idea like this
