Wow, did anyone catch the Clio's at Brands?
What a crazy start....easily the most exciting of all the support races, at every corner there seemed to be a spin!
It certainly was all action, but a crying shame it was red flagged, just as the battle between the leaders was truely about to begin!
What's the REAL shame though, is that the other support races get both of their races televised on the Sunday, but because Clio's (and the Frenault's....must be a Renault thing! :( ) are bumped to Saturdays for the next few races, meaning we're only getting half the Clio action we should be! :(
Oh well....I guess they'll prove there's more action in one race than some series get in two! ;)

well you could go and watch it live on the Saturday!
Clios are always great to watch.
I was wondering what Jim Edwards and co from the first year would be like in a Clio now - he was brilliant then but they seem so much faster now. I don't think we realise just how good the front runners are.

I have to say I much prefer the Clios to the Seats...

In Seats - winning/being at the front is everything
Clios - there is fun in taking part and doing your best

Have just watched the Clios on motors. While it's entertaining, the driving standards are appalling and something needs to be done before there is a serious injury. Who was that who got tagged at Clearways and then, coming onto the pits straight, simply drew up alongside his rival and jinked left into the side of their car and spun them round - in front of following cars. Pure revenge. What an idiot. Did the officials do anything? There's nothing wrong with rubbing and a bit of bumping but maliciously driving into one another is completely unacceptable.

Funnily enough, I was thinking just that, having seen the incident from Clearways. Understandable, but completely unacceptable given the risks.
However, on the whole, the drivers seemed better behaved on Sunday at Brands so there may be some hope!

That was disgraceful in my view, and not representative to the usual racing of the Clios...
YES there have been big shunts in the past, but THEY have been accidents...
That childish "Well, he spun me, so I was allowed to get him back" moment was stupid...and probably did a lot of damage to both cars....
To be honest, I was more amazed at that than the rollover that brought out the red flag!
I can only think of one other incedent as bad as that, and that was when Rob Huff blatently punted Danny Buxton up a hill at Thruxton 2002.....that was also pretty bad too, IMO...

i alkways felt that was debateable, as the track falls away to the outside there so buxton was moving across at huff. also, with the cars being LHD huff may not have realised he was that close to buxton.
not saying it wasn't intentional, but there's enough doubt there (in my mind) for it to go unpenalised...only huff knows the truth!

Hmmm...I remember being very angry about it at the time....though I haven't seen it since, so my memory is a bit hazy!
But what I remembered was that Huff, after running side by side, turned into the rear end of Buxton, pitching him off track.
Any other track, and he would've been searching for gears and away again, but since it was Thruxton and there was a hill there, he was launched up it and rolled down it...(Hmmm..the Englishman that was launched up a hill but rolled down it....in a Clio?
A Film? Or an Alan Partridge pitch to his TV execs? :D )
Still though...that same race you also had that oil enduced multi-wall pounding at the chicane, and also a spectacular Barrell Roll from Colin Stancombe....expensive weekend (and on TV we only saw race 2!....ahhh the "good" old days of having to wait for Motorsport UK's delayed highlights by about two months and shown in the wee small hours......do i miss that? :p )

Ahhh...well what caused that then? The TV camera's never caught the start...only about 2 of the 10 or so rolls it looked like! :p

I think it was brake failure that caused it. Nasty accident and most of the car ended up in the skip but luckily not Colin who I am hoping will make a comeback this year.

So it was the Kerb that launched him?
Bit worrying that!

Here's where its gets intresting. Rowland Harcourt ( in the Red and Blue car no25) clipped Matt allison at clearways ( the blue one) and knocked him into a spin. Matt caught it and they were side by side going on to the straight when he suddenly turned left into rowland causeing the accident and a lot of damamge to the car. i think that the standards need to be addressed and as someone has said a driver will get hurt. and after seeing the brands second race i was suprised that only one rolled!!!!
lets hope it calms down this weekend

I just hope it's all sorted and there's no revenge enacted this weekend....mind you, Silverstone is quite a wide track, so It should create the carnage of Brands IMO!
*He Says picturing Tom Onslow Cole's WEIRD little roll on the first lap last year!* :p

Steve Wood involved in another Flip.....not his own this time though
Didn't see how that one happened.....anyone there who saw?

Simpson is def. one to watch as will be Mr Wood when he wears his wife's undies over his race overalls at OP. He shouldn't have trashed the car again....

I was at the chicane for that one. Someone took a shortcut across the kerbs and in the process removed his sump. The oil was spread across the width of the track as he went into the pits. The following pack were fighting for the lead and failed to heed the warning flags and so failed to turn right as they hit the oil. The cheers slowly died away as each car joined the pile then erupted again as each driver emerged unaided from the wreckage. They just can't do things by halves in those Clio's.

that someone accidentally cracking his sump was John George :(
That was a nasty incident - real nasty

Funnily enough I just saw one of the Clio's in town today....
It wasn't close enough for me to see the name, and I can't remember it's number, but it was definatly a blue, race spec Renault Clio being towed on the back of a lorry through the center of Coventry....
Quite what it was doing being driven through coventry is another matter....I know they've got to head for Oulton Park this weekend, but surely it's a bit early and a bit out of the way for that......:D

And another action packed race, with about 3 cars lucky not to roll this time!
Giant smash instead though, with the driver wishing he probably DID roll, it wouldn't have been as harsh an impact...
And as Simon Hill pointed out, he crashed right into the marshals post, so I hope everyone is alright there, as there were tyres and a Clio flying everywhere!

Apparently one of the marshals on that post was slightly injured, but AFAIK is OK.
Couldn't see Hilltop from where I was, but did see the various cars going through Knickerbrook on two wheels.

those Clios must be strong because Steven (Hunter) walked away from that horrific crash but the car is no more. There wasn't a single panel straight on it. Luckily Steven has another car so should be out at Thruxton next weekend.
What was the only nice thing to come out of this was to see another team (Boulevard) helping Gatecrashers with the heap.

Ah yes, the famous Thruxton meeting, sadly away from the BTCC cameras though....any know if we're likely to see this on screen?
