Dont think they're made any more, so have to buy them second hand. People suggest car boot sales, Church fetes etc but you'll be very lucky!! I got mine off Ebay - but as theyre in demand they can get really expensive. Typical price is likely to be £20-25 but I've seen them as high as £50+ on there.

Otherwise find a nice person with them to borrow them off and make sure you've got something to return the favour!!

On that note if anyone wants to borrow 1988 or 89 in return for a lend of 1990 then get in touch!! ;)

Good Luck:)

Is 97 worth buying, i have 94-98 (the best years) bar 97, i had never seen 96 till i brought it and it was great, i know menu kicks ass but is it worth it to compleate the collection.

I have always wanted 97, since i saw that first ToCA game, but it isn't part of my collection. I ordered 95 first becaue i had the year book. I would buy it.
I have, 1992,1994,1995,1996,2001,2002, Nigel Mansells Touring Car Year, BTCC Cavailers Full Story

If you want the collection don't you think that regards of the racing it completes the set.

I've got all the Bathurst tapes and now DVD's and the year books so that it is complete. I have a number of tapes from UK as well but not all of them YET.. !!

Ive got 88 and 90, and then 91-97.
I don't bother buying them anymore as I have all the races off TV.

Someone was nice enough to copy me 88 and 90, and they are worth getting! :)

Yeah I'm the same I tape off the TV go to the race and buy the highlights and get questioned about it by the boss of the house.

SOME PEOPLE (wife) DON'T UNDERSTAND.
:D

97 is worth buying.

Not as good as others but you might as well!

The 91-02 videos are quite readily available second hand and because they arent out of print they arent very expensive. I got a 1996 video the other week for 50p (already had it but it was so cheap I couldnt resist it!!)

See its not just the women after bargains.

Everytime I go to the markets or the local trash and tresure I'm always look for tapes. Just got the 1985 World Rally Championship series on VHS for $4.95 (oz$).
It was filmed by Screen Sport Ltd UK.

Dunno what it is with 96 though because the origional video I bought was only £2 from WHSmiths (reduced from £15?) and that was only in early 1997 (before the new season had started!)

But yeah always on the look out for motorsport bargains!! It keeps people quiet when they moan about you buying stuff if you can retaliate with 'it was only 50p!) :p

Your so right 50p is a great bargain. I just hint at Xmas for which tape I wont.

I have all the BTCC review videos - including the elusive 1987 edition - and all are excellent :) I actually have a spare copy of 1988 and 1989 so if anyone is interested in buying them they should feel free to PM me with a sensible offer. I am currently trying to assemble a complete set of raceday programmes for the same time period so maybe we could do a bit of bartering and exchange one of the videos for a set of programmes? If you're interested drop me a line!

Had wondered about 87 - never seen it anywhere - whats it like? What length? Worth getting etc?

Is 87 the first then? or are there any before that?

Cheers.

Thought I'd bring this thread to the top again.

Hope this doesnt count as advertising but I've just been looking on Ebay and theres a 1988 vid. Unfortunately its already over £30 and theres still a few days left (to prove my point about them being expensive!)

As I'm not selling it I hope the mods dont take offence!! Cheers guys! :)

I've been contacted by someone reading my earlier post and I've agreed to sell the 1989 video for 20 quid. I still have the 1988 edition though and would be interested in selling at the same price.

Had a look today and there are 2 1988 videos on there. One is £2.99 and the other £3.00, but I expect that price will go up when people find them.

Though I'd bring this topic back to the top of the pile as I spent today ringing around searching for any footage from pre-1988 (without much luck I must say!). Spoken to BHP and to BBC and no joy, anyone got any leads, or suggestions on where to try next?

Also (slightly related) have got the yearbooks back to 1992, but cant track down 1991 as its no longer in print (theres a copy in the British Library but travelling down to London is a bit extreme!!). And while I'm on the subject - is 91 the first year or does it go back to Sierra days? (its 'The Touring Car Year 19xx' published by the Nott Organisation, but the Nott organisation no longer exists since Martin Nott now works for Haymarket - full of useful info today arent I!?!)

BHP certainly have footage from pre-88 - but not every race, and they'll charge a fortune for it.

I was searching myself for some early BTCC reviews. I only have a small collection, but I'm looking to expand. I was going to order some reviews from Duke Video one of these days. Has anyone else tried to order BTCC reviews from about 1989 to 1995 lately from Duke Video? And (if you could) how much would that be in dollars?

The book Touring Car Year was actually a magazine in 91. It was supposed to be quarterly after the first one but as I found out when I ordered 30 for the WHSmith News department I was managing at the time, no one was that fussed by it.
I've got a copy of the 91 mag, but I think you'll be hard pushed to find any about now.

I've also heard that there is a 1987 BTCC review although trying to find it would be a nightmare.
Earliest I've got is the 1985 ETCC British rounds featuring Volvos, Rovers and Sierra XR4i Turbos.

Another worth looking for is the 1987 Bathurst video. I'm sure Aussie V8 will back me up on this - Glenn Seton in the rain going across the top of the mountain on slicks is some of the most amazing in car shots you'll ever see!

Isnt this of interest to a significant percentage of members though?!? ie where they can get hold of BTCC related merchandise??

You are probably right John - however we have to be careful re the rules about selling and advertising on the forum.
Just pm or email each other if you are buying or selling.

John

Ok fair enough - my query was basically to find out what was out there to buy rather than trying to buy or sell directly from others. But starting to mention producers BHP and Haymarket magazines might be considered advertising I guess (although I dont think its any worse than mentioning ITV, BBC or C4 in a post) But I'll try and confine specific issues to PMs.

I was just basically trying to find out if any pre 1988 videos and pre 1992 books exist before I waste my time trying to track them down somewhere!!

Cheers! :)

A lot of that early video was released by a company called Sports Seen or similar- I think some of it started out as promotional films for manufacturers involved in the series- I'm sure Rover commissioned one on their 84 ETCC campaign which was subsequently released on video? I wish someone would re-release a lot of this stuff- although I guess the market may be limited.

Those 80's Bathurst videos are absolute classics!
