Myself, Amanda and Alan (all forum members) will be in the auidence for the show. I was looking forward to it anyway but now that it is going to have quite a section dedicated to the BTCC it's going to be even better. I'm sure the debate about what went on at Silverstone will be an interesting one ;)

They film it at Teddington. I found a contact number for tickets in my BARC magazine.

Ask them what those 4 black round things are, on each corner of the cars. I've been wanting to know for ages.

Is it me or does Matt Smith wanna be punched in the face. He seemed like he was angling for one with those risky comments he was making.
But he did look a bit of a prat up in the audience asking questions, like he was scared of them!

I think it was a loaded question. On the evidence presented I think I would have voted "villain". Wonder what would have been said after last years races when Matt took Owy off and Thommo put Colin T into the tyre wall. I found the two of them anoying with their "holier than thou" attitudes. They are both as bad if not worse than Riedy. He just made his mistakes a little too close together this season. Even Plato came close to haveing Thommo off as he passed him.
OK rant over.
As for the shirt. Enough said.

well, that was fairly amusing!
having now seen the inceidents, the reid-neal incident was 50:50.
but the reid-thompson incident was totally, without a doubt, reid's fault and he deserves to get the penalty for that...i don't understand how he can honestly think it was exceptable, he knows inside that it wasn't, and shouldn't be surprised at getting penalised.

i can't remember that one exactly, but there is a prob (as with most forms of motorsport) that penaltys are not always dished out evenly down the field. guess its cause when someone gets relieved of 1st place in an unfair move its more obvious than someone getting moved out of 8th place or whatever.

It was interesting to hear from Reidy that he got home at 2am because Team Dynamics were trying to get him excluded for the rest of the season. Having now seen all the footage from various angles, and having seen the after race incident first hand, I don't think Matt Neal has a leg to stand on. It was a 50/50 racing incident. I think he's just got a cob on because he's down in 3rd on the Independents listing.

Now I've seen all the video evidence I agree with the Thommo incident being a stupid move(hadnt seen that before 'cos I was at the track down by Abbey) and i'm even more convinced that the Reid Neal thing was Neals fault, he was pushing Reidy all the way through the esses trying to get through as soon as he could because Chilton was closing in, and he tried to force his way through a gap that wasnt there and took Reid out of the race(although he would have lost the win cos of the Thommo penalty anyway)
Also, lol at Neals excuse for the after race incident...."we were waving at eachother down the straight and we ended up touching" It was an obvious swoop to the left.

I don't think Reid's got any defence for his move on thompson, he clearly had all 4 wheels off the track. The Neal icident was just a racing accident as far as I can see, don't think he was right to claim that matt had him off the track though, quite difficult to take somebody off to the outside of the corner when you're on that side of them already. His excuse that he gets the worst end of it because he drives for MG is somewhat bizarre. I think Tim Harvey was right in his silverstone colum.
As for the shirts, surely Plato should have a biger punishment as he is a consistent offender :D ;)

I have to disagree with thin lizzy. The Reid/neal incident going down to abbey was a 50/50. U could see that he squeezed matt and put matt and himself on the grass so how u can blame matt I dont know. The Thommo one again no excuse u dont drive into people like that. I raced Karts for 8 years and if any one did that u would be thrown own of the race, I appriciate that Karting is different but the ruls and virtually the same with regard to contact.
Roll On Oulton is all i can say !!!!

but didn't Claire do well = good on you girl. :)
Seeing how Mattie explained that the rules state you are not supposed to edge people off the circuit then every driver including him has been guilty at some time or another.
I have a sneaky suspicion that all this is just PR...

Well done Claire. You could also see Alan and Amanda throughout. You must tell us what it was like. :D
I'm sorry, but I still can't see why so much attention was given to that Reid/Thompson collision. Whilst I accept that it was entirely Reid's fault, it would be putting it a bit strongly to say that only Anthony pulls off those moves. If you heard Jason's comments, he didn't seem to upset with Reid.
As for the show itself, I have to say I wasn't too impressed with Matt Smith. He frequently interrupts the people he is interviewing and does not seem particularly knowledgable. I think he tries to cover it up by making cheest jokes. That programe needs a new presenter- how about Matt Lorenzo?

Claire was a star!
We had a great afternoon watching Speed Sunday being made, so much goes on behind the scenes and the ad breaks seem to last forever! It is very hot under all those lights.

John ~ there were no punch ups off camera! We chatted to Jason and Anthony after the show was over.
We decided taking the banner might not be a good move! :p

Dunno which thread the actual incidents are being discussed in - but something I wondered after today - why was this incident not shown on the actual coverage but was on S-Sunday? And I know Matt's car had an onboard camera and guess that AR's did too(?) It would have been good to see the "swooping" from that angle!
Totall unrelated but why was b-l-o-o-d-y bleeped out on speed sunday - especially since it wasn't on the actual coverage an hour earlier?! And presumably none of it was bleeped out on the Motors coverage?

Got the impression that Matt in particular was not a happy bunny - would that be a fair reflection or was he not as peed off as it came across at home?
You could have had a I love Jason's shirts banner - they'd have allowed that - but then you shouldn't really lie on tv should you?! :D

It was shown on the BTCC programme too - during the interview with Matt Neal.

Perhaps the people who make Speed Sunday are slightly more sensitive...or more likely they were trying to hype the incident up by making the audience think they said "F***ing" twice more.
None of that footage was shown on Motors - the only interview they had on Motors was the Chilton one.

I think the 3 of them should stop arguing with eachother and work togethor on beating the frenchman.. Seeing Mullers full attack on Reidy from last season in full today amazes me how he wasnt banned, if that had been karting he would have his racing liscence torn up and thrown in the bin!

I agree about Muller.
His actions were probably the worst I've ever seen in the BTCC - and I'm including anything that the likes of Roberto Ravaglia or Frank Sytner might have got up to! :)
Of course, Muller was never going to be excluded - simply because he was in the championship hunt.
TOCA (or even the FIA, if we are talking about F1) always claim that the race and championship positions are irrelevant when considering penalties... but that's clearly untrue.

Yesterday's programme was the first time that I'd seen the footage of the Reid/Thommo incident. I'd be very suprised if Ant had much control when his car was off the circuit. The grass was very slippery (helped by the fact that it had been recently cut and the clippings left on top of the grass). A couple of Formula BMW cars came to grief earlier when they put a wheel on the grass.

We had a great afternoon at Speed Sunday, it was just by chance that the week we chose tickets for happened to have the BTCC theme.
Being part of a live TV show was quite nerve racking and having to sit next to Jason and answer his question just made it worse, I had my fingers crossed that I didn't mess up!!
Having been brave and watched it back it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
The funniest bits are in the break or when we were off camera, all the make up people would come on and mop the sweaty brows of all the drivers and reapply their make up so they didn't come across as being all shiny on TV.
There did seem to be a bit of an atmosphere between them, Tom was happy to chat but James, Anthony and Matt said nothing to each other during the breaks, most of the time Matt looked like he wuld rather of been anywhere but there.
If you get the chance to go you should, just to be there and watch what goes on behind the scenes is interesting without what is being discussed and the guests they have on.:D

That one really takes the biscuit. i've heard some excuses and bleatings from MG people and Reid's waffle about how MG get picked on because they're British, but blaming it on grass clippings? I had to refresh the page after reading it in case I had misread it.
I would be suprised if he had much control whilst off the circuit, that is why it is generally preferable to stay on it, if at all possible. Of course he had no control, he was out of control for much of the weekend, starting at free practice and then taking out his own team mate in race 1. (yes, I know Colin said it wasn't Reid's fault, but what else do you expect him to say? It'snot what he was saying in private, I know that for a fact)

and at what point in my post did I say that the conditions were an excuse ? All I did was to state a couple of facts. The crashes earlier should have alerted all to the state of the grassy areas, and made every driver realise that they would be in a 'no-control' situation if they ventured onto the grass and therefore leaving themselves open to possible consequences.

Does it make anyone else cringe when Reidy goes on about the huge fan base MG has, due to it being a British car and the independent underdogs?! It really had nothing to do with the incident and I think the other drivers found it quite amusing!
P.S. - was there ever a "BTCC Live Chat" for Silverstone? Or not seeing as the race wasn't even live?! If so, who were the guests? It would have made for great viewing to have Neal, Reid and JT on, when they were still fired up on Sunday night!!!!

True to some extent, but more than an excuse, he was using the air time to make points in favour of someone investing in the team, also getting a dig in at MG themselves, who have lost such a great oppotunity to continue promoting themselves. The current MG Rover TV ad is reported to be costing 3 million quid, money the fans think should have gone into the BTCC. The loss of MG as a manufacturer to the BTCC is a loss not only to Reid and WSR, but the series as a whole!!
If you look at Alan Gows comments at around the time of Media day he still thought MG were entering as manufactures! MG let Mr Gow down too!!
AR is pretty fired up, and yes he cut the corner, and has been penalised for it, so its time to move on.

Yeah nice post and Reidy sure is a smart ass! There's no point in arguing over the penalty as nothing will change anyway so might as well get a mention in for the team! :)
