With the absence of the indy cup in 2001 got a test for the statisticians amongst us. Its pretty obvious really but here goes:
Out of the 7 independent drivers (Luby, Erdos, Sutcliffe, Pinkney, Ferrier, Harvey, Blair) who would have won the championship (assuming of course that the drives and driving would have remained unchanged had their been a championship - eg JSM may not in reality have kept swapping drivers if there was an indy championship) and assuming the usual scoring system of 15-12-10-8 etc.
As I say its fairly obvious who was first so you might want to show off by guessing the other positions.

Erdos, Harvey, Luby, Ferrier, Blair, Pinkney, Sutcliffe, would be the order.

Nope you were closer the first time!!
I made it that Pinkney had more points than Blair as he had two 1sts and a 2nd to Blair's 1st 2nd and 3rd (Havent taken into account bonus points though - eg fastest qualifier - because I couldn't be bothered!! So that might affect it slightly!)

What when Erdos had 77 point outright, he got beat by Harvey who had about 20 outright points!

Yes, because the indie points are calculated only in relation to the other indie drivers, thus Harvey and Howell beat Slight in the overall standings in 2002, but Slight came above them both in the Indie points standings.

Yeah, I took that into account, but still 77 and 20 are worlds apart, plus Erdos had many, many 4th places, thus winning the indie race = 15 points, and Harvey had many, many retirements!
Plus John basically I was right apart from I got Blair and Pinkney the wrong way round.

I worked it out to be the following (just on finishing positions but not on bonus points)
Erdos 139
Harvey 89
Luby 81
Pinkney 42
Ferrier 42
Blair 37
Anyone got any other quizes for us to play!?!

If the Vauxhalls were not there in 2001 + 2002, what would the championship positions have been? Forget about people being taken out by Vauxhalls, we'll just say they had a natural retirement. In 2002 include Barwell - we can say they built their own cars.

Presumably 2001 is fairly easy as if a Vauxhall finished it was very rarely behind a non-Vauxhall.
Therefore I think its probably the same order - ie Eaves, Soper, Erdos, Harvey etc.
2002 is a bit more complicated though because there were frequently non-vauxhalls finishing ahead of at least one of the works astras.
Presumably Reid or Priaulx would have finished 1st?

How! Andy Priaulx only did 2 races and retired in one, Reid did six but won only 1!

Andy Priaulx did 20 races and Reid did 20 races. If you read the post I'm referring to 2002 with that comment not 2001.
