Ive just been reading in Autosport about the new touring cars series that may be racing next year, it all looks very good from the out side. The cars look stunning.
But when i look at it, i see SCV8.

Im not sure if there is room for another tourning car series in the UK. SCV8 were supposed to be just putting there series of for just another year. But nothing has been said about it that i have heard, someone might be able to prove me wrong, but it looks like another no go for SCV8 in 2005.

To much of a good thing can be bad, and two serises means thinner grids, if any BTCC teams jump ship.

Anyway thoughts anyone?

Theres only room for the BTCC at the Top in this country. And then have more below so we get more drivers and teams coming up into the BTCC. I think SCV8 will never happen, but this T1 thing might, wont be that succesful i dont think

Don't forget that as the force behind MSV, Jonathon Palmer has ready access to some of the best circuits in the country.

I don't know how serious this is and how much is posturing for a better deal for MSV.

To put on a rival series would be very costly and fraught with danger. The prive is not cheap and would you get the grid to support it?

However, the threat is there for Brands, Oulton and Snett to be removed or at least rivaled from the calender if it came down to a bun fight and that in itself would be very worrying.

My opinion is that this is a GPWC type thing where it's being used as a bargining chip.

See the post I just made in the BTCC forum... maybe Palmer has decided he can make race meetings at his circuits more viable if he has direct control over the series which races there.

Should really combine the posts but it's panning out in a most unfortunate manner.

If GT toss them off, then Palmer will be an increasingly concerned man that BTCC may do the same. This is a time when BTCC and MSV should be thinking about consolidating the future. It's also a time where all parties need to figure out what the future holds. I'm not a great fan of BETA for example but they have a voice that as we have seen, can be destructive if ignored.

To move forward, a heads of agreement would need to be in place that comforts the circuits, the teams and the series otherwise in a time where it needs to be pulling together, it will shake itself apart. CONCORD was a rather self serving attempt at this but a more realistic version would be needed to safeguard everyones interests. However, this is schoolboy stuff and I am sure the powers that be will be well underway with negiotiations with the respective parties to address the more deciseive elements.

T1 is blantantly being devised to oust the btcc..whatever palmer says.

SCV8 could quite happily work alongside the btcc, as they are a very different type of car.

Palmer is after the big bucks, he will, if it get off the ground , be making money from both the teams in the series and from the punters who come and watch it. I think I prefer circuit owners to concentrate on providing a good enviroment for racing, and the race clubs/promoters to control the series that we watch!

pardon me if I am talking bolloks here but can the btcc organisers and palmer not just get round the table and work together and make this the best championship. Even if the BTCC becomes the support races it will bring the fans out.

I really hope it doesn't come off. If the MSA Championship Control Board have any sense, they'll refuse it a permit before it turns into another SCV8, Eurocars, VSR etc. We don't need 2 touring car series. Someone tried to have 2 GT series in 2001 and that failed miserably, despite all the hype. I can't see T-1 doing any better.

As can be seen from the numbers of works teams in the BTCC there is not a lot of available money to manufacturers for motor racing. The talk of this new series is a negotiating ploy to sure up calendars and other matters that are of interest to MSV. There is not much financial advantage to BMP in running the BTCC but they still do it (even with free tracks) so what is the financial advantage to MSV?

I really hope this doesn't come off. Like other people, I can't really see there being room for it.

I just hope JP knows what he's doing...

Well, MSV are firmly on the BTCC calander with an important concession for a Brands race but the prestige of holding the last race of the year. This could potentially provide the biggest gate for a few years for the BTCC.

So, reading between the lines, it seems a compromise wa agreed but what will the impact be on "Push 2 Pass" racing. Will it melt into the background.

Stay tooned for more news as it breaks :D

Sorry Croft, I meant that MSV (Owned by Palmer) were on the BTCC tour where there was a possibility of them not being so.

It was my speculation that the new series was a ploy by Jonathan to get a better deal and again speculation that the proposed series may fade away a little now.

Am probably wrong. As per normal. :D
