View Full Version : How many rounds of the BTCC are you planning to go to?

Amanda
11th Feb 2003, 10:49 PM
I went to them all last year and am hoping to do the same again this year. Add to that all the ASCAR rounds that don't clash with BTCC, Fiestas if my friend races and a couple of rounds of the SEAT Cupra Cup and I will have another busy year!

John

Only one I would have thought!

Usually go to Croft and Knockers but as theres no Knockers this year I cant do that!!

The others are all too far away and therefore too expensive to get to :(

thommo_fan
11th Feb 2003, 10:56 PM
as many as i can.

it can't be cheap to go to all of them tho.

Amanda

I didn't dare add up how much we spent last year! We did all the rounds of the BTCC, all the ASCAR rounds at Rockingham, Le Mans and Goodwood Revival (in fancy dress)! It was great fun and worth every penny.

John
11th Feb 2003, 11:01 PM
Well when I win the lottery and start my own race team I guess I'll have to attend all the rounds wont I!! ;) ;)

another thing is how do you get the time off work?

Amanda
11th Feb 2003, 11:04 PM
I don't need much time off work, just the odd day after the long distance rounds. Probably about five days off at the most.

John
11th Feb 2003, 11:12 PM
Aylesbury's pretty central for most places though isnt it? Presumably its relatively easy to get to most circuits with the possible exceptions of Mondello, Oulten, Croft and Knockhill (well easier than from some places anyway).

Brands Hatch is my local circuit, I usually go to just one meeting there though. Went in 2001, for the finale, ****** brilliant!

Live in Suffolk, easy for Snetterton which I really like, also intend to visit Brands twice, Silverstone, Rockingham and Donnington.

Claire

Went to all the rounds last season and will be doing the same this year. Luckily I have a group to go with so we share travel and room costs and with season tickets as well it does cut down some of the costs. As well as supporting the BTCC I will marshalling at Brands and Snetterton and have something on nearly every weekend from 30th March till the end of November, but I love it. :)

Claire, you must get serious withdrawl symptons over the winter in between seasons. Hate it when the motor racing season is over. Though just started to watch the WRC on C4 again which has a really short off/pre-season

John
11th Feb 2003, 11:44 PM
I was just thinking that while sat here taking part in discussions about car numbers and rumours - if they started the season earlier then we'd have more to talk about!!

;) :p

I'll be at every round at Rockingham, as its my local circuit, but other than that it's probably just Donnington, unless I win the Clio Scholarship! :D

Planning on going to Croft, and I can fly down from Glasgow on Easyjet very cheaply indeed for Donington! (£3 there and back excluding tax etc) I need to stay on Sat and Sun nights so any reccomendations on any hotels/b&b's muchly appreciated!
Thanks :D

Would like to do them all but looks like I will have to miss 2nd Brands (unless I can drive across the country & back in one day to do just race day!) Add to that as much ASCAR as I can fit in, part of British GP weekend, the US GP and anything else that fits in between then I think I should have a good year.

Last year I missed 3 BTCC rounds but I did do Spanish & British GPs, Le Mans, several ASCAR, and Goodwood Revival!

I hate to think how much I spent last year.

Went to every BTCC round and quite a bit of testing then there was EERC, and F3 when close at home, most of the Super Coupe cups, trucks and clios,DTM,ETCC, FFord festival, Renault winter series, ouch my purse!!

This year it looks like a lot clashes but should be doing BTCC, EERC, VW Cup, ETCC, DTM, Super coupe odd ones, porsches maybe....
and now it look like add a GT round or 2... ouch

I hope to catch every race on TV but maybe next year 1 or 2 could be on the cards when my wife and I come over to visit my dads family in Prestons.

John
12th Feb 2003, 10:07 AM
But you haven't given her the good news yet I bet!!! :p

Hey John I'm not that much of a chicken and besides she actual likes motoracing.:p

John
12th Feb 2003, 10:16 AM
I was just thinking of the reaction if my dad suggested that to my mum or I suggested that to my ex! Lets just say we have/had a hard enough time getting them to sit through the TV highlights! :p

My mates used to ask my where did you get a girl that liked to have a beer, motoracing and rugby league.

Have no doubts or I'll give her money to go shopping.

The big thing for me is to be able to go to a BTCC race live...:D

Just Thruxton for me as it's the closest track about 70 miles away!!!!!

But last years Thruxton meting had enough action, so i'm not to botherd about only going to one meeting.

AussieV8
12th Feb 2003, 11:15 AM
So when I come over next year is Prestons close to any track. I think one of the girls (sorry I forgot) said that Oulton Park was nearby. Naturally I will wear something to fit in like a V8 shirt or maybe something to do with CRICKET OR TENNIS:p

Claire
12th Feb 2003, 11:39 AM
Oulton Park is the closest and we will all be there the weekend of the 6/7th September. Hope you get to make the trip over.

Defo Thruxton, hopefully I'll be passed by then and one other if its on a bank holiday. which events are on bank holidays, if any?

touringlegend
12th Feb 2003, 12:06 PM
Donington's 6/7 Sept..Oulton's the 21st and the final race so you could be in for a treat Aussie ! :D

PS there are people who go about with V8 merchandise on already...;)

Claire
12th Feb 2003, 12:16 PM
Opps got the dates wrong, not surprised with all the changes!!

Bank holiday meetings are Mondello at Easter
Brands 05/05 and 25/08
Thruxton 26/05

Fiona

Oulton Park is my local circuit so I'm definatley going there. Get in cheap with Clubcard Points. Donnington's not too far away so going there as well.

John
12th Feb 2003, 01:07 PM
I'd love to go to Oulten sometime (think its the 3rd closest to me, well second closest now).

Is it good for spectating etc. those of you in the know?

Fiona, never thought about Croft? ;)

Amanda
13th Feb 2003, 06:43 PM
Oulton is a great track for spectating. We either watch from Lodge or cross the track and stand opposite the pits.

I am lucky that we live near the centre of the country so can easily get to most circuits. Even Knockhill was easy for us as we could drive to Luton and get a flight to Edinburgh.

lauz
13th Feb 2003, 07:27 PM
Even when you live up here in scotland it only takes 4 hours to get to oulton, donnington and rockingham, which isn't too long. but it takes about 6 hours or more to get to brands and thruxton. mondello isnt as far as brands though but the wait for the ferry is a nightmare, then the road between belfast and dublin ain't very good.

I plan to go to all the rounds except Croft and Mondello (too far away to get back in time to work the next morning). I think that makes it 8 rounds I'm planning then.

Yeah I think it's really good for spectating, loads of good places to watch. Take it you might be going this year ?

No, never really thought of going Croft. Me & my dad need to get time off work, plus my dad won't drive me there !

Can u get over by Island and Knickerbrook cos I reckon that would be quite a good viewing place - especially in 99 when Plato took the bit in between them on the grass!!

Probably wont make it to Oulten this year but you never know - I'll check and see when it is.

I think we are coming in May as there is going to be a family wedding and my parents are going so Janet and I are taggin along.

I don't care where the race is as long as I get to one and maybe catch up with some of you guys/gals.

Thank you Claire for that info inregards to which track(s) are close

Well I can't were V8 clothes how about something like a Socceroos jersey:D :p

Did well there Aussie, taking so long to mention the footy.
Going to risk a civil war in The Stig household by making the wrong decision about which event to go, Snetterton or a long planned family wedding. Big Big dilemma!!!!!

Unfortunately I am doing A-Levels this year, so I will need to be a bit careful.

I usually attend all races at Brands Hatch, Thruxton, Silverstone, Donnington, Snetterton and now Rockingham. Thus I aim to be at all of those races.

I am also looking at perhaps the Molson Indy Toronto and some ASCAR!

Yeah, Oulton Park is the closest track to Preston (England's newest city!;)), just an hour away down the M6 but, as someone else has said, that race isn't until September.

Donington is 2 hours away, but your May races are at Brands (furthest circuit from Preston, 250 miles, about 5 hours, but the best meeting, with Champ Cars) and Thruxton (I'd guess about 4 hours, but I haven't been there from Preston yet).

Back to the original question, I'm aiming for 9 meetings this year. It's Snetterton, not Mondello Park, for me at Easter.

Just thought of another jersy rugby league :D

I think we are coming for 6weeks arriving early May 2004 and leaving the middle of June.

We travel 3hrs to go for a picnic so travellin 5-6hrs for car racing is not a problem.

I was hoping to get to Brands as thats my favourite track on TV and on the PS2.

Which races - um, same as the better half I guess!! (means all of them plus ASCAR and a few others).

What a life eh!

I am told some men get dragged round the shops.:) :) :)

I just have to pay for it all!!!:(

You wont regret going to Brands!! I was blown away by it when i first went and i have now fallen in love with the place, thats why i'm so upset about not being able to go this year, it has the best racing, great atmosphere and Padock Hill Bend! I think it's Britians Barthurst!!

My life ambition is to race at Brands Hatch

The Stig

Go along with that, Brands is the first UK track I visited and the first one for which I check the dates. It's the one meeting I'd do anything not to miss. You won't here me complaining because there's two meetings in 2003.
AussieV8, you seem to enjoy it on TV, wait 'til you get there mate - certain you'll be blown away. Even UK grotty weather doesn't deter me.

Camped at Bathurst many a time in daggy weather so that wont deter me.
As a big Mazda fan I hope to see the girls in the RX8's also when I come over.

Getting to all meeting s this year. What a treat. Shame there will be no Knockhill as I have not been there before, but not been to Rockingham, Croft or Mondello. Safe travelling to all those making journeys through the year.
:)
