As far as i know all you need for production is 4 doors and a 2L engine. So what cars would you like to see bombing it round your local track?
How About

Merc A-Class (Not 2L 1.9 or 2.1)
VW Bora or Passat
Saab 9-3
Citroen Xsara
Fiat Stilo
Skoda Fabia or Octavia

Any more

Audi (A3/A4?)
Volvo of some kind (S40?)
Return of the Ford Focus
Toyota Yaris (if there is a 2l version?)

The biggest engine for the Yaris is 1.5, 0-60 in 9 secs.

That all? Thought there'd be a bigger engine than 1.5l. Is it not in the same sector as the likes of the Clio (and therefore the sport versions of the Clio?)

How about allowing brand new standards, rebuilt classics e.g Astra GTE's from early 90's, Astra GSI's, Escort RS's etc.

Surely if they were made reliable and up to new standards, why can't the run? Do they still have to be in production as a car? Would have a barage of people entering if it was possible!

Oh and whats this about 4 doors, the Civics, Pug 306's etc weren't 4 doors?

A-HA! The 306 was a saloon

Ye but not on the track. So they can be 3 doors on track so long as there is a 4 door vrient on the road then? Thats what I'm getting at!

I know Super Touring had a rule that demanded teams to use a 4 door car unless there wasn't one in their range, but Super Production allows for many different bodytypes to be used. Just look at 2001 for example. 4 door saloons (Honda Accord), 2 door coupes (Integra R) and 3 door hatches (Focus).

Ford always used the hatchback version of the Mondeo though since around the 1995 season. They had used the saloon prior to that. So there must be something else to the 4 door rule somewhere.

There is something niggling me that as of the "new era" ie post super touring, coupes are allowed, hence the astra coupe and 406 coupe.
That I guess will answer some of the questions. I think there is something to that effect on the 888 website.

I think 4 doors or more were ok. Because the Mondeo 96 onwards, Laguna, Volvo 850 Estate and the original Honda Accord were 5 door cars.

I found this on a copy of the rules i have, regarding the new regulations.

Large-scale series production touring cars with a minimum of 4 seats of a minimum overall length of 4.10 metres, a minimum overall height from the road of 1.35 metres and a production petrol engine capacity of 1.75 to 2.2 litres, and having the engine installed in the front part of the car, driving either the front or rear wheels and steering the two front wheels only. Four-wheel drive may be admitted to the Championship at the discretion of the Administrator

intersting, so you could have a four wheel drive MPV entering then. :)

All I can find in the regulations about limitations is the following....

"production touring cars with a minimum of 4 seats of a minimum overall length of 4.10 metres, a minimum overall height from the road of 1.35 metres and a production petrol engine capacity of 1.75 to 2.2 litres, and having the engine installed in the front part of the car, driving either the front or rear wheels and steering the two front wheels only. Four-wheel drive may be admitted to the Championship at the discretion of the Administrator."

"All Race Cars must not weigh less than 1150 kg including the driver and his/her complete racing apparel at all times during a Meeting"

"13.1 Except in the case of explicit allowance by these Technical Regulations, all external Bodywork must remain the same shape, material and thickness (thickness tolerance ±2%) as on the BTC Touring Car. The tolerance for the homologated / registered overall length and wheel base will be 0.5% and for front and rear overhangs shall be ± 1.0%.

Theres loads more but thats the main stuff weight and size wise.

The regualtions state that number of doors does not matter but the production model has to have a "minimum of 4 seats"

"5.2.3 Only cars with two-wheel drive (Front Wheel or Rear Wheel Drive) are eligible"

Could that mean someone could run a RX8 ?

But how would they determine the engine capacity ?

Does it have to be cylinders ?

Sim, if you look further back in this thread, you'll see that 4 wheel drive is permitted with special permission, so technically you could run a 4 wheel drive MPV. You could also use a 2ltr, front wheel drive minibus. That has more than 4 seats.

Now theres a way to get some publicity! Enter a minibus! The only example I can think of is that Ford Transit Rally van.

However I think this is getting a bit silly, we'll be suggesting they hook caravans onto the back of the cars next!! ;) Actually thats not such a bad idea!! :p :p

It could only happen downunder we actually have caravan racing.

John

There you go then - who wants to post that idea in the suggestions for RW area?! ;) Think I'll pass and let someone else do it!! :p

The cars are usually old Ford or Holden station wagons (estates !) and as for the vans the rules are:

1: 2 wheels
2: Chassis
3: Something that resembles a van from the 70t's.

or and I forgot the most important part.

NO RULESNO RULES NO RULES NO RULES :p

Found this - as we were on about four door production cars a while back thought I'd show you this contender!

(By the way incase you don't recognise it - its a Renault Clio Symbol!! - anyone ever seen one on the roads??)

I've been to France quite a lot of times and nearly everone has a Renault, Citroen or Peugeot, and there are millions of Clios, but have never seen one of them!!

Mystery!

If i remember rightly, at the last round of the VW cup somebody competed in a diesel van (cant remember the name. Looks like a Polo with a box on the back).

Was intreged by that so did a quick search and found a pic, so that no one else has to go searching round the net!

It has its own web site but as I'm not allowed to say where it is I hope I'm not breaking its copyright rules!! :(

Had a couple of requests as to where the VW pics are from.

Here's the info you need:

Its a VW Caddy at Thruxton driven by Peter Wyhinny

I'm sure if you type that information into a suitable search engine it should come up with it! ;)
