...has been cancelled on Saturday due to a Typhoon that's hit the Suzuka region.

Will now take place on Sunday morning (Saturday night UK time).

I can't remember this happening at GP in the 15 years or so I've been watching, anyone else know of a precedent?

detroit '84 had the session cancelled i think, due to the track breaking up.

1985 Belgian GP at Spa was postponed completely after the new track surface broke up in practice (you could literally peel it away with your fingers)! The organisers hadn't given it enough time (I think 60 days was/is the recommendation) to 'settle'. Race was held September time and it was a classic with Senna beating Mansell in indifferent conditions.

Dallas '84 was a completely shambles.

Dallas '84, but the race did actaully go ahead, althought the track crumbled like fruit cake. The race mainly went ahead cos the stars from Dallas the TV series were present!

That was the race where only 5 cars finished and Nigel Mansell collapsed, from trying to push his Lotus across the line.
