A good friend of mine is entering the Seats this year and we were discussing colour schemes for it and what the others were like. He came up with the idea of asking the fans what colour car they would like to see on the grid so here goes.....

Black.... always looks great...
Unfortunately any sponsors may prefer a dayglo colour, but black always looks great on a racecar.

Hi Les, Ive voted red, purely as it seems to be the colour that wins! think Ferrari (until this year of course) and Vauxhall, Im sure there will be some who dont want to see more red cars but they always look stunning. :p

Dave Pinkneys car should be Orange! It's more interesting, but better would be some sort of dayglow colour like Mark Davies' Clios for a couple of years. They were bright!

err let's get this straight - it's not Dave's car and that one is so good it's breathtaking :) and why orange when his name is PINKney?
They were thinking yellow but Matt's and the Barwell cars are predominently yellow. There are also a lot of red cars - Tom's, Doble's and another one, Youngs is white and there were 2 unliveried as yet (or rather grey!).
So we need something something good. - I am leaning to black and orange or black and lime green (he went yuck at that!).

Ive always like Blue cars, ther have not been too many of them and there always stand out from all the red and black.
Reds nice but there are too many abit of origionality wouldn't go a miss in some of the new designs. Remmeber the 2001 vauxhall which raced at Brands? Looked stunning.
Thats my design blue with white parts to heighlight the cars shape and to make it look more dramatic, people like cars that look fast as wel as go fast.
When a car has colours just shot all over they look naff, lines help make the car look faster as long as there Horizontal.

I don't think I've ever seen a purple race car....on reflection, maybe there's a reason for that!
The original Hotwheels MGs were great with the hotrod flames.

My Clio is "Citrus Green" (an almost pearlescent colour), it looks great when its clean! A colour like that would be good on a racing car.

Black and silver was always a favourite SCC livery with me (Stefan Hodgetts 2003 car).

would say yellow as you can graphic a car well on a bright base colour and make the sponsors graphics stand out more also who remembers the Ford Focus millenium, yellow with black leather with yellow trim, sexy car if a bit girly. Ditto some of the Mg's

Had another think and I recon the best colour scheme ever, must have been the blue and orange of Gulf racing...

First thing I do, when designing a livery and (this is rare) not have to design it around the sponsors colours is to look at the grid and make sure there isnt too many of one colour. I'd be tempted to say, dont do red as Boardman and I think someone else has it, and dont use yellow, which seems to be popular.
Normally, I dont like to do white, as it almost invariable look a bit privateer. Very few mainly white cars work, actually the only one where I think it works was Hamish Gordons SCC car in 2003 (wonder what he is up to). That helped because of the bold "Driving" branding, but I digress :)
Also, bare in mind, that SEAT keep ownership of the majority of the front bumper, mirrors and I think the rear bumper. These will stay platinum grey. Its worth trying to incorporate that into the design. Pinkney's livery incorporates this.
TBH, I'd try and stay clear of real day-glow colours, but I wouldnt rule out an Electric Blue or some other bright colour. Remeber, the brighter the colour, the more impact it will get, but the sponsors logo could then be lost (so in this case, introduce a drop shadow or a keyline)
There, thats some of my secrets :) Have a search of the Spainish SEAT site as well, you may have some ideas. Nothing really outstanding livery wise in the SEAT's except Pinkney's.
Favourite SCC liveries in 03 and 04 would be the Loaded Black and Silver of Hodgetts and then O'Brien, Pickfords simple Blue one and Westwoods 03 Orange

I voted for black, but if you're thinking of something a bit different, I can't help thinking about Dave Brodie's Sierra RS500 in the 1990 BTCC - Black with reflective chrome sides, and strips of chrome up the bonnet and roof. He reflected (geddit?) this design on his red VW Vento in the Vento Challenge during the late 90s.

Pink.. It always attracts a lot of attention and comments from the commentators and from spectators. It is highly a visible colour out on the circuit, but it takes a bold man to race in a Pink car!

umm two favorites of mine have raced in pink - Dave PINKney and Tom Boardman.
The car could not make Thruxton but should be there by Brands (or I'll cry!)
