View Full Version : Excessive weaving

I'd like to hear what people think about weaving on the green flag lap, mostly with regard to the Renault lot (as they are the main culprits).
I accept the need to warm up the tyre's up (as I've done it plenty of times in my racing in the past) but the rule states that only fifty percent of the track is to be used.
But my main gripe is weaving onto the grid while marshalls are awaiting there arrival for lining up! it happend at Brands with the FRenaults, and the lead car in Clio's almost overtook me while coming onto the grid. Both incedents I reported. Thats NOT on!
So everyone.... Whats acceptable in your eyes?

I think its acceptable to weave, just not as much as some of these drivers do. I can remember seeing at Snetterton once that a driver was weaving while aprroaching his starting postition, he nearly knocked down a grid girl and a team member over, i think some drivers weave too agressively. thats my opinion.

Weaving is fine - but I think there should be a line 50m or so from the back of the grid past which they should be told not to weave. To weave on the grid is dangerous I would suggest.
And they shouldn't be that near the safety car anyway! Should they?
Did you see the Clio safety car spin out a few weeks ago - it was in one of the World Series by Renault races I believe. Safety car driver was getting alot of flak but by the position of the following cars I believe one of them hit him.

Does weaving really make any difference anyway?
I seem to remember a TV commentator once say it didin't do anything other than keep the drivers occupied while go round the track...

i don't mind the weaving or how far they go - it's the hang back until the pole man burns his clutch out that gets me or the test start that piles everyone up!

The weaving certainly does get temperature into your tires, but some heavy accellerating and breaking is good too - although not always possible to do. The best way to warm up your tires is to drive fast!

In my F3 days, it did help a little, but in FF1600 I never really bothered (grooved tyres) I still won races from pole without weaving at all!
the grid should be a no weave area completely! and should anyone do so, should be docked position after the race, or points deducted with a fine!

Martin Brundle says that. He always says that the best way to warm up the tyres, is to pump the brakes and light up the rear tyres.

OK so its unnecessary but you cant expect them to race with cold tyres so in away yes but in away to much of it is just stupid!!!

Yea i no that i was sat in my tent on the campsite at oulton quite away back from the track and i still heard them crash! i'm just saying that you cant expect them to race on cold tyres and they should be able to swerve a little!

The rules say "you can only use 50% of the track".
I saw the result of the accident, and it was bad for both, Coley's car is a near write-off. And I understand Taylor was wrong to weave, and doing it during a qualifying session, but Mark could have backed off (so I hear) but the deed is done, and the cost is a big chunk of racing budget!
My bigger concern at the moment is weaving on to the grid! Pole man on FRenault nearly did it again, but I gave him a wag of my finger, and he did stop. What with mashals and grid placing people looking down at there planners to make sure they are looking for the right car, leads me to think that some drivers don't think abaout there actions enough, just because there pumped up for the race.
