Probably a bit late in the day to start this discussion with the Rally already under way, but any views on:
- who will win
- who will be the surprise (for reasons good or bad)
I would have answered Petter Solberg to the first one but obviously can't have that option now :(

I have merged these two threads as John & Ann obviously had a case of great minds thinking alike!

At least C4 are showing the rally earlier than Eurosport it is on there at midnight!
When I spoke to Penny Mallory a few weeks ago I commented on this and think she agreed but obviously it isn't down to her what time the programmes are on.

I thought we were getting through to them - everyone moaned last season about the amount of studio time over the amout of road action they showed and this seems to have been addressed but now we have stupid times for the programmes, the shakedowns were on mid week during the night so never managed to see them whereas they used to be on a saturday lunchtime the week before.
To answer Anns question, I dont know who will win as I havent seen any build up to the even whatsoever. Couldn'teven get Autosport mag this week despite trailing round our 5 newsagents on Thursday morning!
As a pure guess I'd say Gronholm or Rovenpara, but for all I know they could have crashed out!! Ok rant over now!! ;)

Latest is as below:
Gronholm was initially leading but I believe he suffered power steering failure. He was still running but way down the order. Solberg inherited the lead from him but then broke his suspension. Colin was in 4th at one point so not sure how he dropped back down the order.
1. H ROVANPERÆ’ 1:14:50.5
2. C SAINZ +20.7
3. F DUVAL +29.5
4. T MÆ’KINEN +31.4
5. G PANIZZI +37.9
6. R BURNS +56.5
7. C MCRAE +1:03.3
8. A SCHWARZ +1:07.1
9. F LOIX +1:13.6
10. T GARDEMEISTER +1:40.9

Thats because flaming C4 wont let Eurosport show their better coverage before them! In exchange for this deal they promised us that it would be prime time with the possiblity of live stages! Now they just don't care :(
And replacing the program with an Iraq documentary

Didnt see it myself but Im reliably informed that they didnt manage to solve the Iraq crisis in that half an hour documentary!! Maybe ANOTHER Email to C4 is in order?!?

I was a bit annoyed, but atleast it gave me the chance to watch Corrie! :p
But C4 promised us it on prime time with the hour programme already being scrapped we are getting 25 minute programs pushed into any avalible gap in C4 scedule!

For lots of last season, I seem to recall C4 news over-ran on the Friday and the WRC was a complete afterthought. This is really really annoying. WRC was also often shunted out to the early hours to accomodate C4 cricket coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. I personally prefer C4 to Eurosport for the WRC. Thank heavens the WRC part of the C4 website is more reliable than their programme timings.

I only remember the WRC being 'shunted' by the Cricket once.
I can't repeat what I said.
WRC is 100 times more exciting than Cricket. I mean Bowls is more exciting!

Watching a bowls pitch/green or whatever it is called without people playing on it is more exciting than cricket!!

At least this year isn't a Peugeot whitewash again, the championship should be quite close now. :)

It was a cracker of a drive form Armin Schwarz. If the car survied I bet he would have finished ahead of Panniz
Does any one know what happened to Loix. I know the Hyundi is not as fast as the other cars, but he lost over 5 minutes on a stage

That was so funny when his car was on fire and he did the interview at the finish with a smoke filled car - is it just me or if yuor car was on fire would you be conducting the interview somewhere else, like about 50 metres away from it!! :p
Shame he got the time penalty though.
Dunno about Loix, he's never really been the same since he had that crash in the Lancer. Shame really.

I wouldn't be suprised if that knocked his confidence.
But what about Sweden, Greece last year.
