I laugh at the last meeting of the year in 1996, Brands where after the pile up the drivers are discussing who would be on pole! :)

Radisich when he had his rather one sided argument with Ravaglia

after a race in 1998 when rydell stormed over to reid's nissan, grabbed him by the throat and said 'if you do again i'm gunna have you'.
and reid just sat there with his hands ups.

One of my funniest moments was in '95, when Nigel Smith, showed what he thought of Matt Neal!
And our Murray asked if they did a book about it! :D
Another one, actually the same meeting. Patrick Watts was talking to the marshalls and waving around. And Murray was narrating rather well. "...which way did they go then? was it that way, or that way? Who knows I gotta leg it for home..!"

i was watching the 2000 btcc review the other day and it was a race at oulton park, going into the hairpin muller hit the rear of thompson's honda to nugde him out of the way. muller got through and watty was mocking what muller would say, and he said ''no it wasn't my fault, he backed into me''.:D

When Murray Walker said "I wonder if they do a book about that?" when Nigel Smith spun at thruxton, or in 98 when Hoy went off in the first race and was going across the grass, you hear a beep sound, Watty goes "I'm sorry Will, i didn't hear what you just said" insinuating that Will swore but it was actually the radio. Well i thought it was funny.

The funniest bit about that was the fact that after JW said 'sorry Will I didnt catch that' Will repeats it!! (sounds like he heard Watty but obviously didnt!) :p

Not really BTCC, but Bathurst 1998, incar with Del Warwick and the in car camera turns to look at Warwick.
Murray - "Derek turns left to look at the camera as if he can hear me!"
**Derek waves at camera**
Murray - "He can hear me! Can you hear me Derek!? No he can't...!"
Class Murray moment! :D

1991 - Donington Park. A classic example of BTCC carnage, and no-one got hurt...
Someone deposits a huge slick of oil at Mcleans.
Nick Baird (BMW) is the first victim, spinning but getting away with it. Nick Whale (BMW) sails gracefully into the gravel trap, and as Nick is climbing out of his car, Mark Hale's Mitsubishi Galant skates off on the oil and nearly takes out poor Nick in the process - he only just got out of the way in time.
By now, the leaders have come round and all hell breaks loose! Andy Rouse (Toyota), Tim Harvey (BMW) and Jonathan Palmer (BMW) have a good tankslapper / spin on the slippery stuff but manage to get away with it more or less. However, Jeff Allam (Vauxhall) smashes his car straight into the abandoned BMW as does John Cleland (Vauxhall). Ray Bellm, Laurence Bristow and Tim Harvey (all in BMW's) also spin off in sympathy, Tim also almost taking out Kieth Odor (Nissan) into the bargain...
That was pure mayhem and always makes me laugh, particularly because the TV coverage shows the team personel in the pit lane looking decidedly confused! :)

Yeah I love that race - very lucky no one gets hurt when you watch it but its certainly spectacular and manages to take out half of the (already depleted) field while the others survive through luck more than anything else!!
You'd never see that nowadays though as the safety car would have been waiting for the lead cars before they reached the corner.

Yep, I agree - with the introduction of the safety car, that sort of mayhem is now probably something we won't see again. OK, that's not accounting for times when things can have the potential for getting out of hand...
One other particularly bizarre incident that makes me laugh is one that I had the dubious privilege of actually witnessing:
2000 Snetterton night races - it was raining so hard that the electrics on the start line gantry failed, so they had to start the feature race by lowering a Union Jack! The circuit organisers rigged up a spotlight so that the drivers could see the flag, but I don't think it did any good.
As soon as the chap climbed up there and held the flag up, the field was off - they didn't even wait for the flag to drop! I suppose that technically they should have aborted the start, but because of the weather and the impending circuit curfew they were so far behind schedule that the organisers just let it go...
It was such a shambles that it was unreal! :)

I remember the holding lights up to flags thing and on the TV Charlie Cox says something like 'Its a rabbit! Can you see a rabbit?' That was really funny! :p
At the time I thought why dont they just start it behind the safety car - but dont suppose it made much difference.

I suppose they may have thought that they wouldn't be able to see the green flags from the start gantry as the floodlighting was only around Coram and Russell. In daylight I don't think there would have been much of a problem. A
lso, as the circuit curfew was approaching, I think they just took the quickest option to get the race started. Given that it was dark and pouring with rain, having the cars hang around at reduced speeds with cold brakes and tyres may have made safety an issue... So they just got them round and got them off and then kept fingers crossed and hoped for the best!
However, I'd agree that the TV commentary of the incident was very funny, but you should have heard the stuff that was being put out over the tannoy! :) That had everyone in stitches...

I can't remember that one at all... Odd, because I've usually got a pretty good memory of these things.
Is that joke on one of the review tapes? If so, which one so I can go back and check. I can't believe I've missed something that funny...

It wasn't "that" funny, just comical.

Dunno if its on the review but its 2000 and relates to the reason for the curfew - to give the farmers time to make their crop circles before dawn. (And no not Dawn McDaniel!!) ;)

I liked Murray!!
What about getting him as gues commentator next season at a few rounds!! :) As its pre-recorded then it shouldn't be too time consuming for him!
