What would you go for?

I liked it at Brands 1997 when Menu was dissing Reid and he was right behind him....

"The Guy si crazy, he just needs to think some more!"

john clelands last race in the btcc, and the race was being shown live and there was a safety car out.
so the bbc decided to go and do a interview with him as he was driving round behind the safety car.
cleland had just been given a drive thru penalty so he told alan gow to get ruffled.

David Leslie, "Bintcliffes done it again, and the cars ****ed!"

A perfect Menu moment. Thruxton '96. "I got pushed of by Ravaglia, and I think Will started it!"
Yeah, blame everyone but yourself!!

muller always makes me laugh during interviews.
after he won the feature race at thruxton last year he was describing what the car was like after his pit stop on cold tyres to vikki B-H
he said ''the front left tyre, he doesn't like it. you can hear him, he is screaming''.
:D :D :D

Got loads as Im in the middle of putting together a compilation of various quotes from drivers, commentators etc. (So any that other people have got that I might not have would be appreciated!)

A few of my favourites though:

Phil B at the last round in 2001 - 'the wipers have ****ed up already'

Jason Plato's quote after being 'taken out' by Jimmy T at Oulten Pk 1999 which was just a series of bleeps

Yvan's simple '**** off' to Peter Kox (1999)

Several comments concerning Menu's accident at oulten 99 ('hope he's packed his trunks' etc)

Anything by John Cleland - esp the stuff already mentioned above and of course the 1992 final round with Soper 'the mans an animal' 'what are we doing here is this stock car racing or motorsport?' 'he might get away with that in Germany where he might be Mr superstar....' etc.

Some commentator ones (slightly off topic but everyone else goes off topic)

'The car upside down is a Toyota' (Murray 1993)

'If they have any more drive throughs they'll have to start selling burgers and fries in the pit lane' (Charlie Cox - 1999)

'Hell hath no fury like a woman rammed!' (Murray 1991)

After Menu drove into Plato at Silverstone 99 when rejoining the track and the safety car was deployed to clean up:
Charlie Cox: 'Theres some debris on the track'
John Watson: 'I think its half a Renault'
Charlie Cox: 'I thought the debris was what Plato was driving'

Thats probably enough for now!

My favourite is a Phil Bennett one. From snetterton in 2001 after he gets spun by Plato and he's going on for ages on his radio about how he's gonoing to get him back "In a LARGE way". :D

Ian Harrison to Vic Lee on the pit wall at Knockhill 2001 after Bennett and Soper collided at the hair pin - "Lost it Vic..... Bonkers!"

King Cleland

:D

Vic just completley ignored him!

Not actually a driver quote per se, but a similar theme to the original post, can anyone remember Nigel Mansell bleating over the radio imploring his team to protest. He was chuntering on and on. What about you John, can you shed any light ?
F1 legend maybe, but what a winger!!!

thommo_fan
4th Feb 2003, 12:22 AM
there are some great ones there from phil bennett and jason plato.
the best ones are when the drivers forget they are on tv for a second and say the first thing that comes into their heads.:D :D

John
4th Feb 2003, 10:20 AM
On the Mansell theme wasnt there one where he got a drive through for speeding in the pit lane - not sure of the exact figures just now but it was something like a 64kph limit and Mansell said 'I was only doing 68' and the team boss says something like 'yeah but thats 4 over the limit!'

Nice one Nige - dont think the 10% plus 2mph rule must apply in the BTCC!

King Cleland
4th Feb 2003, 11:41 AM
Never liked Mansell.... moan moan moan!

John
4th Feb 2003, 01:23 PM
Yeah and he didnt even learn the other guys names....

'I think it was Knox.. It was a Honda wasnt it?'

John Watson: 'Not Knox but Peter Kox - but he did Knox you off the track!'

:) :)

John Cleland said that Gow could go "raffle himself". Thinking back, though, what I find funny is that he said, "People who know me, know I don't drive fast".... about a month later he was caught by police in my area for doing 100+ mph on an A road. He got away with a heavy fine.

John
5th Feb 2003, 10:37 PM
He also said in response to the suggestion that the safety car was out to slow up the field so the organisers could shoot out his tyres going past the pits that Gow wasnt a very good shot and would miss anyway - good job it was live cos I dunno if that would have been allowed to go out (slagging off the bosses, whatever next!) ;)

Just been watching the 1989 review and found this one - bit long but pretty funny. Its from Dave Brodie complaining about the other teams in class A:

'These turkeys are gonna have to start getting up early in the morning if they wanna take me and my team on, right. They turn up with their big transporters and their good looking motorhomes, they prance around the paddock all day long in their overalls, right. But when it comes to getting the business done they're all a bunch of wallys, apart from Andy [Rouse]....... Guy Edwards has had more spins than Rock Around the Clock. Frank Sytner has had more rolls than Joe's corner cafe........ In 26 years of touring cars I've never seen such pityful, ridiculous, driving in my life!'

Bet that went down well!!! ;)

Second meeting at donnington in 2001, the Vauxhall team to Bennet

"Park the car! Park the car! DONT CRASH IT!"

:D :D :D That had me cracking up.

These are commentary but still,
Or Snetterton 93,

"Alex Portmans been hit by Matthew Neal! Theres gonna be some paddle bashing tonight!"

Or Donnington 92,

"And thats Torquiel Tiery going backwards to christmas!"

Frank Sytner again (always good for a quote eh?!) Snetterton 88 after winning the race he realsies he didnt get the point for fastest lap because someone else (actually Mike Smith his team mate) came into the pits in drying conditions and changed to slicks. (Think this clip is actually on the Murray Spectacular video for those of you without the season review)

Frank: '....it looks like someones stopped and put slicks on and got fastest lap which has ruined it for me in the championship, makes it very difficult. I'm just hoping it isnt one of my team mates...'

[Prodrive team member congratulates Frank on winning]

Frank: 'what the (bleep) are you talking about? What about the... Who did the time? Who put the (bleep)ing tyres on the car?'

Team member: 'Smith'

Frank just walks away to the sound of 'bleep bleep bleep...'

:) :p :)

McKay
9th Feb 2003, 11:53 AM
That was funny, and then they have some other drivers and mike smith and he says he doesn't think Franks gonna be too happy with him

haha! Sorry Mr Moderator. If anyone would like to listen please send me a PM and I'll let you have the links. John - the two JC links were .wav format and the MJ one was .rm - are you sure you have the necessary software to listen to .wav files?

John

The quote has also been deleted Craig! :( Do you want to repost it because its pretty funny! Shame cos it wasnt doing any harm.

Presume I can access wav files as have managed in the past but if you reckon it works then it must be me.
