View Full Version : Worst thing about this series...

...is that it's a 9 car championship. 3 VX, 2 Seats, 2 TD and 2 RAC. Well that's what any newbie to the series would think. I'm sick to death of the pro TV coverage of just these cars. I didn't even get a chance to see that Turkish guy driving, apart from when he spun it. I would like to see some of the racing further down the field also, I didn't even catch sight of the Lexus, or BMW. And i'm sure the sponcers of these teams are getting fed up with no tv exposure at all.
Even Jordan was half way off the track on the way down to the hairpin, and still we didn't see the end result. He was thinking, "Look at me, look at me, i'm doing a wild manovure down to the hairpin. Please look, anything to get on the telly!"
Sort it out, it's one of the things that's driving me away from this series.

And that James Thompson is allowed to come in and miss half the races but still manages to steal points from the proper championship contenders

I'm glad someone brought this up, was really excited about the racing being back again and being able to watch Mike Jordan again. But the television coverage was total crap and I just switched off and did not bother with the last couple of races.
Even going back to when Jordan won at Monedello he got naff all coverage.

This is the only aspect of the TV coverage which annoys me. Oh and them skipping laps. Like we don't notice they go from lap 1 to lap 4.
But they had some nice clips at the start of the show about Neal and Plato.

I think that the covergae is fine apart from the odd blip where we get exciting things happening like what Jordan was doing and we cut away to see some Seat or Honda on their own. It sounds like a lot of action happens with the cars at the back of the race as they seem to be evenly matched, but we never get to see it and when we do it's for a split second. We didn't even see why Smith crashed in the first race, just the aftermath. Other than that, great stuff!

I thought that some of the camerawork in today's coverage was shoddy and the director seemed to cut away from the important action too often - in the last race, as Neal moved up on Plato, we cut to Thompson crossing the line on his own and then the camera stayed on him as Neal pipped Plato in the background. Poor stuff, in my opinion.

I think directors are obliged to cut to the leader as they cross the finishing line. It's so they have some archive footage with the commentator saying (for example) "and Plato has won his 800th race" for when Plato retires from racing or something.
It seems to be the way all directors work.

You need Motors TV. Same cameras but at least you see every lap live.
Except when DTM clashes :(

The reason they show the Front runners is because there the series top drivers and where the Championship is going to be won and where the MAJORITY of the action is, Its the same in any championship. Personally I'd rather see the front runners because thats what people watch the championship for, for the big names and the action between them if it focused more on the back makers it would'nt be half as good coverage IMO

Yes the coverage is'nt as good nowadays to the Super Tourer days they used to show everything in much more detail, I know it was'nt on the TV that much then But I'm going on my Videos from them days to the DVD coverage now which is rushed and edited very poor like a 5 year olds done it.

It's nice to have a change and see some of the others for atleast more than 5 seconds. I'm sick tot the gutts of the other cars.

That's a little harsh, and you aren't comparing like with like.
Back in the 90's all the cameras, both onboard and trackside, were connected to tape recorders. The film crew would then spend the next 2-3 days reviewing hundreds of hours of footage to compile the race highlights package.
These days all the camera feed back to the broadcast truck where the director has seconds to select which is the appropriate shot to use. There's very little opportunity to record and select the best bits. If you miss the shot first time, tough.
The season review DVDs are simply a reduced version of the weekly transmission, they always have been. If you want a true comparision, have a look at the coverage of the odd late 90's race that did get live coverage. You'll find the quality of editing is not hugely different from what you get now.
Basically you have a choice: either a slickly produced package a week later, or less well produced same day coverage.

I watch it to see all the cars, not just the same 9 again and again. I've probably seen a total of about 1 minute of the BMW.

Thats probably because its only had about 20seconds of action tbh other than that it just makes up the grid

You obviously weren't at Thruxton, where the BMW had a brilliant dice with the Lexus, plenty of classic rear wheel driive slides through the chicane!

I read about that in a race report, shame we never got to see it.

the coverage is pretty terrible, it's not just missing out anybody outside the top 9 but they manage to miss quite a bit of the action in the top 9 as well:rolleyes:

Although the footage could be a lot better and i do wish it would at least show some some of the back runners at oulton park earlier this season mark proctor at the back was amazing to watch but was'nt realy shown on T.V. But at least the btcc is getting some T.V coverage.

There was definitely something better about the presentation of the TV coverage at Croft. It looked and sounded classier. Better than those nasty yellow and blue graphics we were used to from ITV.

I think its the rules about the starting for the second race.. Why keep the positions from the end of race one? The weight doesnt make THAT much of a difference. Bring back 2 qualifying sessions! (But keep the reverse grid rule for race 3!)
Speaking of which, any details as to new rules for next year yet?

Not once during the Donington race coverage did they mention why Fiona wasnt there. Think if it was a front runner they would of mentioned it?

They interviewed her on Motors TV, but unfortunately it was cut from the ITV Coverage.

The only way I knew what was wrong with her car was thanks to the tannoy at Donny otherwise I would still be wondering.
