Chambers wins Bill Taylor Memorial Trophy

Chambers raced solo in the 60-minute race, which is run each year by the Porsche Club GB in memory of the late Bill Taylor, one of the most successful Porsche racers of the 1980s.

With a very diverse entry of racing Porsches, the main trophy is awarded on a handicap basis taking into account car performance. Not only did Chambers win the prestigious award, he also finished second overall in the hour-long race and was only headed by the newer 997-model 911GT3 Cup car of Mark Sumpter and Andy Purdie.

Although Chambers qualified down the order after a steady session, he battled up the field in the race and spent many laps locked in a contest with the similar car of Peter Morris. Though they traded second place several times, Chambers went decisively ahead with a bold move around the outside of his rival at Druids as they lapped slower cars.

That assured Peter second place overall in the race and the very special Bill Taylor Memorial Trophy. "Peter drove very, very well," said team boss Mike Jordan.

Unfortunately, the Porsche 911GT3RSR of Gerry Harrison and John Bussell was beset by a persistent misfire that defied the team's best efforts to resolve at the circuit. Ultimately, they retired the car from the race.
