Derek has recently answered a number of questions I put to him on his racing career including touring cars at Alfa Romeo and Vauxhall. Typically honest, read his views at

What are all your views on his BTCC days???

:)

Probably deserved more than he got in terms of wins and podiums - 1 win Knockhill 98 and as far as I remember only one other podium at Donington that year (3rd)

Not a bad driver but think did better at team management role with 888.

For how many seasons did Derek Warwick take part in the BTCC ?
Wouldn't it take a season or two to get with the programme ?
Racers are racers, but seem to recall it was shortish career bimbling about in the midfield. Might have needed longer at it to forge a name and reputation for himself. Was huge fan of his in F1 as one is with Brits in that discipline, was it Derek who managed to get his Arrows airborne for three quarters of the length of the start - finish straight at Hockenheim or somewhere ?

Cant be certain but I would say 95, 97 and 98 seasons only (unless there were some earlier seasons that I have missed?)

remember the win at Knockhill - excellent and the podium after passing Mansell on the last corner.

He came in as Vauxhall's slumped but him and Cleland were priceless.

Three seasons: 95, 97 & 98. Oh, and the 1993 TOCA shootout.

Derek wasn't helped by cars that were quite frankly woeful, but I put my back out I cheered so hard when he won at Knockhill. What memories...

thanks for the replies! The Knockhill win was superb - but disappointed that there were no more wins...

Do you have contact details for Derek Warwick? I am a relation and was hoping you may be able to get his contact details or have mine pass him on my details.
My Mother (Julie Smiles), was friend with him when they were kids, and my Grandfather (George Smiles) helped him when he first started in carts.
