View Full Version : Who, what, where & when (16)
Reynard
13th Mar 2003, 08:07 PM
HereÃ*s the next renewal of Who, what, where and when.
The answers for Teaser 15 are as follows:
WHO: Tim Harvey
WHAT: Spice-Cosworth SE90C
WHERE: Silverstone
WHEN: 1990
So, well done to Stuart (our resident Group C nut!) for being the first person to get the answer right.
The current league standings are as follows:
1) John (5)
2) Stuart (4)
3) Racefan_uk (3)
4=) lauz, Claire & Speedy (1)
HereÃ*s another that will really test the grey matter ñ again, the clues are all there if you know where to look and what's going on. Remember ñ I will need those four pieces of information from you:
WHO: the driver of car #38
WHAT: car (team would be nice)
WHERE: circuit
WHEN: the year this action took place
So hereÃ*s the next little teaser ñ good luck!

Stuart's right, this one's not funny Reynard!!!
I'm going for:
Anthony Reid

Reynard FF83?
I'm completely guessing here guys.

Come on guys - I can't make it easy ALL the time.... ;) Besides as I only have one small box of stuff on hand, I'm running out of things to post. Will be going home next week to stock up on more WWW&W conundrums...
However, you're a smart bunch as you've correctly identified Anthony Reid as the suspect in the #38 car.
To help straighten it out for you...
it isn't F3 and it isn't a Reynard.
Regarding the circuit and year - the person who's got the year right has the circuit wrong, and the person who's got the circuit right has got the year wrong! :)

Keep trying! :D

How about a Royale RP28....?

14th Mar 2003, 08:24 PM
Nooooooooooooooo :(
That's a FF1600 car...
Stuart
14th Mar 2003, 08:32 PM
Its too square to be a Swift.....isn't it.....?
Reynard
14th Mar 2003, 08:35 PM
No, it's not a Swift.
Swift didn't start making FF2000 cars until 1984 if I got my facts right, as I remember Paul Warwick driving a Swift DB4 at the beginning of 1987.
Stuart
14th Mar 2003, 08:38 PM
Ralt RT1? Or was that an F3 car.....
Ok..I'm getting desperate now....
Could be a Delta......
Reynard
14th Mar 2003, 08:43 PM
Euhm no... An RT1 was a Formula 3 car, quite successful in the late 70s.
At this point in time i.e. 1983 (and here's clue) there were six FF2000 chassis being used in the British series (according to the entry list I have sitting on my desk) and the two most popular have already been mentioned here i.e. Van Diemen RF83 and Reynard 83SF.
John
14th Mar 2003, 10:12 PM
As far as I can work out the 6 are:
Reynard
Van Diemen
Pilbeam
PRS
Delta
Lola
Bailey drove a Lola in 83 so it seems a bit of a coincidence that two current MG sport drivers would have been in a Lola so I'm not gonna say Lola, but then its already a coincidence that they were in FF2000 at the same time so maybe I should say Lola (theres logic there somewhere Im sure!!)
therefore I GUESS
A Reid
FF2000 Lola
Brands
1983
Reynard
14th Mar 2003, 11:03 PM
Well, not quite ;)
You've got another two of the 6 chassis used in 1983, but neither are the one I want. The two you've listed that weren't used in the UK series in 1983 are PRS and Delta.
Euhmmm, no. Julian Bailey drove a Rushen Green Racing entered Reynard 83SF
You're getting closer - there aren't many options left. Good hunting! :)
John
14th Mar 2003, 11:11 PM
Oh ok - MG XPower site implies Bailey drove a FF2000 Lola in 83-84.
I think I'm gonna give up with this one and pass it back to Stu!!
Stuart
14th Mar 2003, 11:28 PM
Er...yeah...thanks John!
I really thought your Lola answer was right!
Ok...time to get obscure....is it a Sparton?
Trouble is I was only 12 at the time and I haven't got many race programmes from before 1986.....and FF2000 doesn't figure in many of my books at all.....
Stuart
14th Mar 2003, 11:33 PM
The only other offers I can make at this stage are:
Zeus
Merlyn
Ray
Reynard

Stu - I had the benefit of rescuing a whole batch of 1970s and early 1980s Autosports on a boot sale! :) Think I paid a pound for some thirty issues a couple of years ago... The bulk of my stuff is from 1987 onwards.
John - I'm using an official entry list for the FF2000 support race for the 1983 European GP, and Baily is listed as driving the Reynard.
And no, it's not an obscure chassis that Anthony is driving. Although they weren't mainstream, they made everything from Formula Vee, FF1600, FF2000 and F3 from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s. (clue here)

Is it a Swallow? - I remember seeing one of those in F3 in 1985....

Had a flash of inspiration at 1:00 am this morning... is it a Modus?
Bet its not but I'm running out of single seater manufacturers to throw in to the pot now!
Reynard
16th Mar 2003, 05:09 PM
It's nothing as obscure as that!
They're fairly well known in historic racing circles (i.e. series run but the Historic Sports Car Club), especially in classic F3 and classic FF2000.
But they are primarily known as an F3 constructor in the late 1970s.
Stu - were you following the Sebring 12? That's what I was doing at 1 am! ;)

Okay, one last stab in the dark from me!
Anthony Reid
1983
Brands Hatch
Martini ???
Reynard
17th Mar 2003, 01:58 PM
It is a British chassis, so it's not a Martini. Pilbeam has already been mentioned, btw.
It is one of the few manufacturers not to use the year in the chassis designation like Reynard (83SF in this case).
Some FF2000 chassis of this type were re-badged as Royales.
This particular chassis manufacturer also produced a GTP / C2 car of which there were several versions. Although they were raced in their own right (name-wise), some were also re-badged and raced as Royales
Stuart
17th Mar 2003, 02:13 PM
Is it a Tiga?
Or an Eldon?
Wasn't following Sebring.... didn't think to even look at the ALMS website... must be slipping....
Reynard
17th Mar 2003, 02:18 PM
No, it's not a Tiga, but you're along the right lines as they also made a FF2000 chassis as well as the Gp C cars. One was raced in the 1983 British FF2000 series, driven by Charles Tilley.
Yep, you are slipping, Stu ;) I was following a friend driving one of the Ferraris - came secong in the GTS class and I'm the one who's totally knackered....
Stuart
17th Mar 2003, 02:19 PM
Not sure if this was British but how about Argo....
Stuart
17th Mar 2003, 02:24 PM
.....and thats the beauty of being involved in Club Racing. No sitting up all night to see how my friends are getting on!
Reynard

Time to stop the pain on this one, I think, close it and move on. I will hold my hands up and admit that this one was probably a little bit too hard and I now have a good idea of the level of difficulty required for WWW&W.
Everyone reached a common consensus regarding the driver, circuit and year, which was nice to see. HOWEVER, only one person persevered enough to identify the make of chassis. I will kneel and bow down to Stuart, who correctly identified the chassis as an Argo.
The full correct answer is:
WHO: Anthony Reid
WHAT: Argo JM14
WHERE: Brands Hatch
WHEN: 1983
If everyone agrees (don't want to cause any problems here) I will give the win from this round to Stuart.
The WWW&W table now looks like this:
1=) John & Stuart (5)
3) Racefan_UK (3)
4=) lauz, Speedy & Claire (1)
The next WWW&W will be posted soon...
