For those who are wondering why qualifying is not live this weekend heres the official response from ITV (I emailed them but no reply!! So phoned up this morning!!)

Basically the period 6am - 9.25am is GMTV which is a different company to ITV. Therefore if ITV want to show programmes in this time period they have to compensate GMTV and give them airtime elsewhere. They said they were prepared to do this to show the race live but not the qualifying sessions (which can be seen at 00.05 on Saturday (Friday night) and 2pm on Saturday afternoon).

For the future all Qualifying 2 will be shown live (possible question marks over US and Canada exist though) but they have not made a decision on Qualifying 1. Think they are looking into Oz GP figures etc.

For the EU races I think the Qualifying 1 will clash with Des and Mel on a Friday lunchtime - so no great loss there! ;) So maybe a few more people getting in touch might be useful??

I can see why they have chosen to show delayed coverage of practice one, I have decided not to watch it and watch the main qualifying and race instead. This will be one of the last ones I can watch live as after next weekend I will either be spectating or marshalling. But I will be marshalling at the British GP and spectating at the Italian one, so I'm not complaining. :p

I think the main advantage of Q1 is that as theyre all on the same fuel load and going to get fastest time it gives a much better idea of the team/driver to beat than Q2.

Also as the penalty for a mistake isnt as great - ie you go out in Q2 first instead of starting the race at the back - then drivers may be more willing to take risks. And risks = mistakes, which are always fun to see!

I didn't see the Oz GP qualifying, but always liked the one shot showdown at BTCC. Always remember Mr Menu fluffing the chicane at Thruxton when it was first introduced. Hopefully there will be some of that in f1 to liven things up.

I really hope for the sake of motor racing generally that this next GP is as good as the last.

I agree. I've always thought he's the biggest cheater in F1.

Never liked him.

now that was nice :)

and what made it special was remembering talking and getting Kimi's autograph 2 years ago at Snetterton. That is my first GP win from someone I have seen come up through the ranks.

No wonder FRenault is seen as the place to start your career..

I've got Pizzonia's autograph on my wall, and what does he do? Runs into the back of Montoya at the first corner

i bl00dy hate pizzonia now, absolutely stupid move, did you see the ariel view of the incident, it was crazy of him! schumacher AND definately pizzonia should have a drive through penalty. Ruined montoyas race, he could have done well in my opinion.
