Come on guys its been dead on here this week!!!

Heres a quick and simple question......

Who was the first person to race a 5-door Ford Mondeo in the BTCC and when was it - the actual round if possible please.

Wasn't it Charlie Cox in an ex- German Championship car?
Possibly the car he destroyed at Thruxton....

As far as I'm aware the car CC totalled at Thruxton was a 4-door version.

At a guess I would say Paul Radisich - 1995 but this is a stab in the dark.

I am assuming that CC and earlier like Robb Gravett, Matt Neal and so forth were running 4 doors and the later Andy rouse prepared machines were 5 door.

Ha! Got it!!!!:p

Charlie Cox it was, but not until Brands (rounds 18 & 19) on the 13th August 1995.

The car he destroyed at Thruxton was four door, but the replacement, first raced as above, was five door.

Mind you - had to cheat and get the books out for this!!!!:D

I think that the first 5-door mondeo was driven by Paul Radisich at the Pembry round in 1993. I am a little unsure about this but it is worth a guess.

They were four door models (looking at the photos). Driven by Radisich and Andy Rouse.

Yeah well done!! Stu was just about right but as you say Alan it was the replacement for the original car (which was 4-door like all the other Mondeos in 1995 and before) which Charlie raced from Brands on.

I'll have to think up another one now! :)

If memory serves, Cox's original Mondeo was Radisich's 1994 season car- ie the Touring Car World Cup winner, so Charlie wrote off quite a historic car at Thruxton!

His hatchback version didn't appear until pretty late in the season, and I think was built up around a brand new 5-door shell from Matter in Germany
