It's good that they're having the media day somewhere central, rather than stuck away in the South East corner (Brands). Unfortunately, since it's on a Tuesday I can't make it. I could take a day off work and go myself, but it wouldn't really be fair on my son (Soupy george), because he'd be at school (and I couldn't get back in time to take him to his guitar lesson in the evening either). :(

Never been to the Rock, so it will be good to have a look around the place - and find out how to get there!

If the public had been allowed all day I'd have taken a day's holiday and gone but it's not really worth it for me. If it had been the Easter Holidays like it was a couple of years back, I'd have taken my sons.

............ and find out how to get there!
easy. (a12 and/or m25)-m11-a14 turn off at a6116(big brown sign for speedway) and follow the signs for the speedway. takes about an hour and a half from romford. my car thinks it's its second home.

I really am quite pleased by this news, it proves that Rockingham are putting quite a lot of effort into their BTCC round this year and I hope this means that they'll become a long term fixture on the calander and not just disgarded again when the other tracks come back on-line next year....
If they have to share the "Midlands" round with Silverstone so be it, but I hope there's a lot more to come from the Rockingham---->BTCC pairing in the future :)

Thanks for that - sounds simple enough!

Why not! Bit worried about those big, high fences though - anyone know if its possible to avoid them and get some good photos of the action at the Rock?

I think you should turn that around and ask yourself how worried you might be if those fences weren't there. They are there for a purpose: your protection.

I think you'll find he means areas where the fencing isn't in the way of getting good photos. Such as over the top or through gaps whilst still remaining safe.

If you're allowed to get there, the best thing to do is use the tunnel to go under the track and get yourself on to the top of the pit garages.

Exactly, Mondy - but Toto's concern for my safety is greatly appreciated!!:D

Yep you will have that access in the afternoon... will be interesting to see if they have changed the pit exit.... i seem to remember that being a cause for concern last time...

if they don't use the chicane, they can use the pit exit that the oval users take which is much safer.
funny, but i was just watching the video of the 2003 event and it had an in car shot from a car exiting the pit lane and being passed VERY closely by another(matt neal i think). very scarey.
when the track first opened (see picture) a marshall was stationed at the end of the pit wall just before the chicane and acted as traffic management to signal that it was clear to rejoin. all traffic used the one pit exit route to rejoin. they then put in the small link from the main pit exit route which joined the small rescue vehicle road(where the red vehicle is waiting) which is what is currently used when the chicane is in use.

Public access is open from midday, probably till 5pm. A great chance to see the cars and drivers without the crowds.

Brands Hatch did say a similar thing last year about public access times and then let people in all day. I hope they do let people in for the morning as well, it's quite interesting to see the publicity shots being done, especially the formation photos.

I've been to several Media days at Brands during the 90's the formation driving left alot to be desired at times, tading paint occured even at those early stages although I doubt it was deliberate.:D
