Just watched the WTCC and a lot of the talk was of the fact that this new rolling start for race 1 is to try and even the field up and take away BMW's rear wheel start line advantage though BMW agreed for the rolling start as long as they lost 15kg in weight.

Now this has me thinking now that there are now a few BMW's on the grid will btcc end up having to do the same next year? And i wouldnt be surprised to see it being one of the talking points of the season.

Also hope that the btcc seats are in better shape than the wtcc versions against bmw's because they looked hopless racing next to them. I was surprised to see Yvan Muller passed so easily.

Surely the BTCC seats are shaped, just like the WTCC ones, by the bumw's that are sat in them.

not sure wot the final starting weights will be for each team, the e90 beamers for rac and jackson have opted for the squential boxes which carry a weight penalty not the H pattern boxes that muller etc ran today in wtcc. that said the beamers were clearly the class act in the field even.
seat here are goin to have a years worth of data for most tracks to set their machinery up with so the teams are gonna earn there corn in practice this year to dial in the new s2000's in.

thanks but they have yet to race yet, and if the bmw's qualify 7th and 8th and are up to say 2nd and 4th by the end of the first few corners it will become a talking point. And i was talking about reintroducing them next year. i know its too late for this year.

and sonofzelda dont get what you mean?

Alan has said he has NO plans to re-introduce it. And if he does just for Seat I say let Seat leave as changing for one team isnt good. And as the WTCC shown today rolling starts mean all the cars get to the corner at the same time alot quicker meaning 6 less cars by lap 2.

IMO the start is one of the most exciting parts of a race - to make it into a rolling start just doesn't build up the tension as much. And like you say, it's usually carnage into the first corner!

Maybe it will be a talking point this year but no-ones sure of how competitive the BMWs will be on UK tracks so they might make a good start but slip back throughout the race - leaving them with no advantage anyway!!

I think the likes of Croft, Donnington and Snetterton are going to be the ideal BMW territory. Its just whether they can transfer it onto the other tracks.

I think it was Snetterton in 93 when Winklehock in a pre Super Touring BMW, started about 6th on the grid and was 1st into the first corner.

Having watched the high first corner attrician rate on wtcc & then 2 or 3 laps behind a safety car which made the start of the season feel like an anticlimax, I think rolling starts would not be a good idea for the btcc + a standing start from the grid means driver skill/car control comes into it much more, seeing who's creeping on the grid, who is struggling with success balast etc etc - gives the start much more interest than cars rolling - lights green- cars scream off - lose most of field at first corner.
