Does anyone know if they will be charging for the grandstand seats at Rockingham?. I have tickets for the Sunday and just wanted to know if, like Brands, they would be charging. Looked on the net but no mention of anything. Ta

I would have thought that, being on oval track, the onbly option at Rockingham is seating. therer ar eno outfiled standing viewing areas, and no access to the infield, so the only choice grandstand seating so I would expect that to be free.
Plus if you go the site there is no option to purchase seats anyway.

I'm hoping to get access to the pit garage roof for photography.
I've never been to the Rock before, so if anything above is incorrect - sorry.

I used to have a season ticket to Rockingham in the ASCAR days and it is fantastic for viewing. The pit garage roof is the only place to get any pictures as there are huge fences all the way round the outside, but with a 300mm lens you can get some good ones!.
I did think about the round track viewing and hence wondered if they'd try and force people to pay for their seat. Lets just hope for a sunny day as only the main stand is covered, turn 1 and 4 are open so it'll be sun burn or rust!

Not much choice there though, you cant stand anywhere else, and if you could why would you want to, you can see the entire track from your seat. Paddocks a bit cramped though, as the track goes almost up to the back of the garages, leaving hardly any room for support racers to put their cars.

support paddock will no doubt be behind the grandstands - otherwise outside in the carpark - that is what happened the last time we were there.
Grandstands will be free - no where else to go - not sure about center access though.

Brands Hatch has never charged for paddock entry for BTCC. Every other track charges for Grandstands, although Silverstone used to vary this from year to year during the 90's usually restricting pitlane access to those who had pre bought tickets. As said Rockingham has to provide free grandstand seats as there is nowhere else to view from.

Going by my limited BTCC attending events (1 - Rockingham media day). It would be near impossible to charge different prices at the Midlands circuit.
As for paddock entry, it states that it will be allowed but being that i got all that on the media day i will be more than happy to just keep myself plonked on my seat at turn 1 :)

it's not impossible to charge different prices even in the same stand. they managed it at the champ car events.
as stated elsewhere the support paddock is usually situated behind the turn 1 grandstand. i also recall an overspill for large events beside the administration block( which was used by the legends on one occasion).
as there is no mention of centre transfer fee i am not expecting a charge although access may be limited to the pit lane walkabout period as the centre paddock area will be quite busy and therefore a health and safety risk.

It would be difficult to control the movement of peoples access to the tunnels to the centre of the circuit, which is via stairways and lifts. There would need to be some sort of turnstiles to check tickets or take extra money.

it's dead easy as only one tunnel in and one tunnel out.... gate on each and out you go.

the middle acess will be more than likely just for TOCA Pass holders I'm afraid. Like brands its not the biggest in the world

I heard that there is no general public access to the centre field:confused:
Can anyone confirm if that is the case?

can you just confirm that access to those areas (apart from the pitlane obviously) is available at all times during the weekend and not just during the sunday lunchtime pitlane walkabout period.

Does that mean the pit roof will be the best viewing spot on the circuit?
Thanks

So you could end up with 20,000 people in the paddock area and on the pit roofs?

LOL :)
I am sure that our visitors will enjoy all of Rockingham's facilities, from the paddock and pit roof access, to the free grandstand seats which give a great view of the whole track, to the funfair behind the Rockingham building, the trade mall, and the free creche. Personally if I get chance I'll be heading to the grandstand at Turn 1 as I think there will be loads of action there!

view from the roof of the pit garages didnt seem that great at the media day as theres some more buildings at the back of the paddock for the race school i think & there seemed to block out a lot of the view as the cars are just the other side of it

a quick word of warning:
if you're sitting in the top row of either t1 or t4 grandstand DON'T STAND ON THE SEAT TO LOOK OVER TOWARD THE CAR PARK/OUTER PADDOCK. the men in yellow coats will descend upon you fairly rapidly. there have been incidents in the past where unsupervised kids have chucked stuff (solid and liquid) over the top onto the area below(where thetrade stands are) and that's a fair height.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Never been to Rockingham before, so could someone please help - are your seats reserved, or if you leave your seats (eg for a pit walk) do you have to find some new ones when you get back ?

Don't think that seats are reserved so you'll need to make some arrangement to save them if you want to go for a wander and return to the same place. I'll probably watch each BTCC race from a different spot, depending on how crowded the stands are. Could take a while to get out at the end, with the third BTCC race being the last race of the day - hope it's easier than Silverstone!

seats aren't reserved or allocated. if your on your own, get friendly with the next seats' occupants. with 3 btcc races it might actually be worth watching from different places. probably blame the schedule on live tv and the noise curfew which is a shame as putting one of the support formulae on last would probably ease the rush to get out.
