Now we're talking - a real Touring car! mmmm.....V8! Only the Holden Commodore VK was better!
This is another one of my stabs as far as drivers go.....

TWR Rover Vitesse
Donington Park 1986 European Touring Car Championship
Kelvin

3 days since we have heard from Reynard, has she been kidnapped by aliens, or worse still by a moderator? :D

Nope - been kidnapped by work commitments... The reality of being a final year PhD is euhmm, finally beginning to take hold.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, you've all got the car, but...
1) Only one person has got the date sorted
2) Wrong circuits by far (that's a big hint)
3) Both drivers are British - some of you have at least one of the suspects
Righty - off back to labs again :(
Stuart

Win Percy / Jeff Allam

Getting there with the circuit, but neither Brno or Zolder are correct. If you get the circuit right, the driver pairing will also resolve itself :)

Having dug out my 1986 Tourist Trophy programme I 'm going to agree with Kelvin on Tom Walkinshaw & Win Percy.
It has to be 1986 as its the last year of the works Rovers and the only season they ran with the deep front spoiler (the Rover is the car that turned me on to Touring Car racing in the first place!)
I now think the circuit is the Nurburgring...

Talk about European travel... ;)
Kel & Stu - you're nearly there though, and it seems that for once, your info is far better than mine. Yep, I'm admitting I haven't got EVERYTHING in the universe on touring cars.
But it's not the Nurburgring either.
The year's right for sure, but wrong part of the season...
Kelvin

At the start of season:
Tom Walkinshaw and Win Percy
Rover Vitesse
Monza
1986
They won the race!
or was it at the end of the season?
Tom Walkinshaw and Win Percy
Rover Vitesse
Estoril
1986
They were second,
the other 2 cars in the team were third and fourth!
Stuart

I'll thow in a...
Walkinshaw / Percy
Rover Vitesse
1986 Zolder
Was going to go for Spa but that would have been the 24 hrs, and therefore likely to be three drivers and some extra lights!

Oops.... that'll teach me. I have to admit I'm guessing now. Theres only two circuits left in my TT programme to name...
Over to someone else before I put in the really desperate attempts!

It's just a small matter of geography guys - you've got the wrong bit of Europe in a longitudinal sense :(

Hmm- that's interesting. under the old ETCC rules a driver could swap cars and still score points so long as they only raced one car- and Win Percy did that on at least one occasion in 86- it's definitely the regular No 8 Walkinshaw/Percy car, but maybe not Tom & Winston.....?
OK, (very nearly by a process of elimination), I'll guess the circuit as Nogaro
The drivers? Walkinshaw and Eddy Joosen?
Percy having swapped cars perhaps?
The year- definitely 86
Kelvin
11th Apr 2003, 08:44 PM
Walkinshaw and Percy drove Nogaro, though Joosen is mentioned on results sheet, but he is Belgian, Reynard already said both drivers are British!!

Sorry, it's not Monza either...
Whatever you've picked, it's just a little bit too early in the season. Other than that, you've all sussed just about everything else. ;)

Oooooops, I genuinely didn't notice that until now - been working on a single brain cell recently and it really shows... Sorry Kelvin, you are indeed correct. (Reynard gets down on her knees and apologises profusely) :(
Confusion was unintentional - don't I look really stoopid :P
The answer is indeed
WHO: Win Percy & Tom Walkinshaw
WHAT: Rover Vitesse
WHERE: Estoril
WHEN: 1986
Congrats to Kelvin then for getting it right.
The WWW&W league now looks like this:
1) Stuart (7)
2) John (5)
3) Racefan_uk (3)
4) speedy & Kelvin (2)
6=) Invincible, Redshoes, lauz & Claire (1)
Next one to be posted shortly i.e. when I get back to my own PC.

Indeed - that did happen once during the season
Percy took the title by a single point from Roberto Ravaglia for the reason that he shared a car with Armin Hahne and Gianfranco Brancatelli at Zeltweg after the car he shared with Tom Walkinshaw retired with duff fuel pressure.
BTW, there were 14 rounds in total in the 1986 ETC at the follwing circuits: Monza, Donington, Hockenheim, Misano, Anderstorp, Brno, Zeltweg, Nurburgring, Spa, Silverstone, Nogaro, Zolder, Jarama & Estoril.
No-one mentioned either Zeltweg or Misano! :)

that's what happens when you spend so long trying to work out which circuit it was that you forget something really obvious.....

..and then lost the championship to Ravaglia after 4 weeks when the FIA suddenly realised they'd forgotten that at the start of the year they'd changed the rules regarding dropping your worst points scores.....
