Never mind Andy and the ETCC! :)

Didn't Kelvin Burt do well??? :) 3rd in class and 10th overall after starting from the back of the grid (35th & 18th in class)...

If Kelvin and Darren hadn't got done for a qualifying infringement which pulled them off the class pole, they probably would have won their class and bagged at the very least a top 6 finish overall. Better luck next time, I hope.

Looked like the BGT race at Donington in 2001 all over again with Kel taking the start... Kelvin's a demon in traffic; forceful and uncompromising yet deft and precise with an unerring sense of timing and it is at times like these that makes me realise just how talented the man is. It is one thing knowing that he has the ability - it is quite another to witness that gift in action.

Above all else, I am relieved that he has got back safely. I don't know if I could face it if he was hurt...

Something I've always admired about Kelvin is the way he just gets on with the job - and does it so well.
He's always struck me as one of those drivers that doesn't have to hurl the car through the field if a charging drive is required - he just gets his head down and picks the other cars off as he goes.

The banzai charge from the back of the grid is always great entertainment but you only have to watch a driver like Steve Soper to realise that the real talent can get to the front without having to wring the cars neck.

Indeed...

You should have seen Kelvin carve his way through the traffic at Donny in 2001... I have the onboard footage from his Porsche and it is absolutely AWESOME! Mind you, he did elbow a few cars on his way through - a sort of "out of my way, sunshine..." The sides of the Porsche were anything BUT white by the end of his stint. I've turned it into an mpeg if anyone is of a mind as it is well worth seeing.

What I like about Kelvin as a racing driver is that he just gets down to the job irrespective of the situation - I saw it so often last year at RML. Even the team (which is one of the most professional outfits around) were impressed not only with his ability in the car, but the job that he did out of it, working with the mechanics and engineers to develop the car to his liking.

Although the qualifying infringement at Barcelona was his fault (ran into the back of a Saleen being towed away from a gravel trap), he didn't make a meal of it. Kelvin and Darren were actually leading the class comfortably after fighting back from that, but suffered a puncture in the closing stages of Sunday's race, robbing them of a certain win. Hopefully Magny Cours will work out a bit better. In any case, I can't wait till Donington.

I'm also still holding out to see whether Kelvin will be back in an ASCAR this year, but at the moment, it is looking to be a little bit of a forlone hope... If I had any choice in the matter, I'd definately see him back - if only to avenge the injustices suffered at the hands of Colin White last year, which ultimately cost him the championship.
