This season has been a class act so far definatly the best since 2000 but reading in this weeks motorsport news, next season may be even better with Rick kerry coming back, Chris stockton is gonna run 2 new lexus's and motorbase are going to run 2 Leon's, ive heard Adam jones is coming back next season aswell plus all the rest and even some extras we may not know about. what are your thoughts and have you heard about any other newcomers to the btcc?? we may have 30+ cars on grid next season!! who knows!!

If there are too many cars we will end up with a situation like the clios. Didnt alan say a while ago that he would limit the entry to around 30 so everyone can race on all the circuits?

i asked Mr Gow about the btc spec and he said that there allowed in til 09 but will probably fade out before that as they wont be competitive enough i cant find the post though!
And yes its way too early to talk about teams for next year, there were people febuarymarch this year saying they'll be in this year (those chevys remember etc.?)
I go by this rule.
see whose actually on the grid for raceday round 1!!!
Edit I found it (search button is my friend!!)

i doubt how many btc cars will make next years gird, if u look at those on the line this year the newest would be the astra sports hatch run by arkas the integras are 3 - 4 years old the mg's 5 ish years some one will no doubt have chasis numbers birth certificates for each car but my point is the same as mr gows, the competive nature of btcc will mean that teams will aquire hand me down s2000 cars from wot ever source and run them sooner rather than later and at the end of the day we are looking at replacing 6 cars (3 intergas 1 astra and the 2 mg's)

John George's and Simon Blanckleys Integras are 06 Spec - so they;re 1 yr old.
i reckon we'll probs see 2 or 3 BTC spec out of 28+ cars

I dont think its really an issue if the BTC-spec cars arent competitive. The reason being, even if a team acquired an S2000 car, there is no guarantee it would be competitive. Just look at Pinkney & Marsh for example.
Also look how long the Astra Coupes' hung around. I would think for many teams its about getting on the track for as little expenditure as possible, rather than trying to be ultra-competitive.

Looks like one of the Classis Touring Car Club driver's is planning a BTCC challenge next year with a Mazda.
4th June 2007
Stacy Vickers in discussion with TOCA for 2008 BTCC Entry
Stacy Vickers has been in contact with TOCA to explore the possibility of local homologation for the Mazda RX8. Unfortunately as the BTCC is now operating under FIA S2000 regulations after an internal meeting it was suggested that a rotary engine was deemed too far from the 4 cylinder piston engine based regulations, but they were open to the possibility of an RX8 utilising the Mazda 4 cylinder 16v engine. Not to be foiled (he has understandably become fond of rotary engines!), Stacy is currently evaluating some more straightforward alternatives. Asked what he would be aiming to achieve in the top line saloon category in the UK, he replied ?To become the nations favourite tubby racing driver.?. We will keep you posted!
20th July 2007
TOCA Investigation.
Since we can?t run the rotary engine in an RX8, we?ve been investigating the capability of a Mazda 3 in the BTCC instead. Trouble is of course that we would need to develop our own engine from scratch as there is currently no serious competition history with the car, and this would be a financial challenge to say the least. Mazda however have been in discussions with the FIA on the use of a Mazda 3 in the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship). We are having discussions next week around whether any of this knowledge will come to Mazda UK, and even better, onto us. So Stacy doesn?t have to hit the gym just yet, and can maintain his athletic physique with a carefully coordinated low impact regime of Dr Pepper, Haribo, and Curly Wurlys.

If Mazda Group get involved in touring car racing, it would definitely knock on the head any hope of Works Fords and Works Volvo teams....All owned by FORD
Similarly there is constant specultation of Chevvies running the BTCC, they would receive no works help as GM already have a UK works team ... Vauxhall, that's why there are no Opel Vetras in WTCC either.

Ford and Mazda raced in BTCC together in 93 and 94, were the Mazda's works entries though.

That could all be changed by next year if Ford do decide to sell Volvo. They are to be deciding on this later in the year.

With the current regs on emissions that isn't likely to happen. Rumours are the Focus RS has been scrapped. Ford aren't planning to bring out a petrol ST Mondeo, but there is to be a ST TDCi. Even the 2.0 petrol engine is to be replaced by a 1.6 turbo.

They were both in the full WRC at one point. Not sure of the year(s) I'll have to look it up, but I think it was sometime in the late 90's.
