Has anyone else seen the supplement with the Daily Telegraph today?
It is excellent and contains lots of information and interviews. I have just been out and bought a second copy for a friend who has already gone over to Mondello!
This is just the sort of the thing the BTCC needs, it is going to be an ongoing series of articles. The Telegraph are sponsoring Vauxhall this season.

You beat me to this one Amanda - meant to mention sooner. Great season preview from The Daily Telegraph who are one of the Vauxhall sponsors this season. Opportunities later for free tickets I understand too.

I must admit the BTCC supplement is good, but I don't think I'll be making a habit of buying the whole paper!!

I agree, it is very good, & good exposure. They do get a lot of the facts wrong though. But I don't agree this is what the BTCC needs. Touring Cars need to appeal to a greater audience, more easily. I don't know about everybody else but how hard was it to find that supplement today??
Granted, it was good but the motoring section of the Daily Telegraph was full of ads fro Merc, BMW and Jag dealerships, I somehow get the impression this is not really a newspaper intended for Touring Car fans on the whole.
Last years "media deal" with The Mirror was a disaster, I believe The Sport even carried more coverage on the whole...
But that was the kind of newspaper we needed to get the BTCC back up there again. Sponsoring Vauxhall and being BTCC media partner will only lead to problems or misleading stories in the Daily Telegraph.
All of course, IMO.

One postive thing from DT invlovement is that the money people read it, and exposure to them may in the long run bring cash into the sport!!?

Maybe, but if you can capture the imagination of Joe Public the money people won't be long in turning up at the BTCC either. Would it work the other way though?

There are some fantastic quotes from John Cleland.
Did anyone notice that the DT thinks both Vauxhall and MG will finish second?:)

I went out and bought it too, very good i thought! :p However, I did notice how biased they were towards Vauxhall, it's inevitable if both have joined forces with a 'major' sponsorship deal. Loads of diff articles by different people. I'm sure when they come to do the reveiws they'll be less biased (hopefully)!
All in all, its good publicity for the BTCC on whole, in such a well respected paper. We've got to keep our fingres crossed that it continues throughout the year. Newspapers are very categorised and attract certain buyers certainly, but the BTCC needs to grow in publicity in any way possible.

I think I read in the supplement something about the possibility of HTML and Tech-Speed joining the production class after Mondello, which is good news...

It's great to see the championship finally getting the publicity it always needed. Does anyone know if the Telegraph will produce bumper race reports too?

Well, there was a decent sized article on qualifying in today's paper, so the race reports ought to be even better.

I think that the Daily Telegraph has got to be better than the Mirror - The Mirror got loads of free publicity last year for doing absolutely nothing, whereas the Telegraph actually published BTCC reports.
Perhaps it might have been good to get The Sun on board, for the readership numbers it gets, but maybe they couldn't. Maybe the popularity of the BTCC has to grow more before The Sun will be interested. You also have to think of target audiences, and the Telegraph could fit in better with people who are more likely to watch the BTCC.

I'm confused as to why people think it was biased towards Vauxhall? Fair enough, all the adverts were Vauxhall orientated, but the actual articles in the supplement itself were fair and impartial I thought. There is nothing wrong with them saying that they expect Vauxhall to do very well this year - everyone else is saying that afterall!

I admit, I didn't see the DT suppliment, but the press only, I feel anyway, give favour, if favour was shown, to VX Racing because they are the No.1 team and favourites for the title (yet again!!).
They just seem to be able to work better with what they have. Remember they aren't shown favour in terms of the technology and specs open to them. Everyone have the same cars. ALL cars have 17-inch wheels. ALL cars have now increased in weight to 1150kilos. ALL cars now have smaller brakes which lengthen the braking zone and make overtaking possible for ALL cars. ALL cars only use carbonfibre on the safety devices.
Unlike F1 where even with the revised rules and regs concerning the use of technology, such as the soon to be abollition of launch control, their is still allot of belief that the technology out-weigh the driving ability by still a good 10-1, the Touring Car isn't such an aerodynamic and technological exercise as a simple race-car where the evidence of driving ability is plain to see.
But MG S&R will still take the title!!!

Didn't Peugeot have at least a small sponsorship deal with The Sun at one point in the mid-90's?- I'm sure I remember small Sun logos appearing on the 406s (either on the mirrors or down in the front spoiler/splitter region from memory?), possibly when they ran in the Esso Ultron colours?

Having reminded my Mum to save the supplement for me, I have already been given 4 copies by folk at work before I can even get over there to collect it!
It was inevitable that the bias would be towards Vauxhall with their sponsorship deal & recent dominance but all publicity is good especially in a paper with the DT's circulation.
(And don't tell Dan that they aged him by 10 years!)
