View Full Version : Special status for Fab and Jas

I just got this funny feeling that the powers that be in the BTCC don't want the drivers title to be decided by a DNF at Thruxton. Also I don't think any of the other drivers want to be involved in or cause an incident that decided the title. TOC got a a yellow card for what might have been overlooked earlier in the season. So I suspect that Fab and Jas will be given special treatment at Thruxton to ensure that the title will be decided on the track rather than off it. Please shoot down in flames!

TOC was disqualified for overtaking someone under a yellow flag.

Hi Laura glad to see you made it back home safe and sound. I bet you enjoyed it just as much as I did. Our boy boy Jas done well but Thruxton will be a tough test for the Leon (Golf in wolf's clothing).

Incorrect, as per the race report. Tom Onslow-Cole was excluded for his part in the incident he had with Fabrizio Giovanardi towards the end of race one.

Thanks
Carl

i think tom got a pretty ruff deal and the stewards are being pretty inconsistant he had a run at gio out of the chicane and definately got an overlap before gio hit him. having seen gio smack jordan of at brands and "only" get license endoresment excluding tom seems harsh for him and his team

I agree,Tom had a fair run at Gio and was quicker at that point,Giovanardi made the choice to close the door a bit,its unfortunate but Tom overtook under yellow so stewards threw the book at him for all incidents

Looking at the replay Onslow-Cole was partially alongside Giovanardi, I think it is a harsh decision.

bigred you took the words right out my mouth there i thought there was nothing wrong with the the go chilton had gio moved over so why shouldnt chilton not have a go and you hit the nail on the head at brands jordan without any dobt would have won that race it was a blatent hit by gio of went jordan no win for him and then the best bit gio is being interviewed and its all a big joke with the so have you ever done any rallying before gio got right up my noise that so i think chiltons shunt was perfectly ok.

I wonder if the officials are also giving the benefit of the doubt to Fab (and Plato if necessary) to also avoid the title being decided by a controversial points deduction or disqualification.

The 'special status' is blatantly obvious and annoying me. Seems if you are leading the BTCC you can get away with a lot more than if you were midfield. Had one of the midfield cars hit Jordan at brands, they would most certainly have been disqualified. But nope, Fab gets a tiny slap on the wrist and complements for a rather good save.

im glad alex im not the only one who sees how it really is to like i said im a kartworld fan and the smaller teams always seem to keep me more intrested but that at brands was just scandaless can you imagine how jordan must of felt.

Oh right, I got the yellow flag info from Tim Harvey at the end of the program on ITV1, where did he get that idea from then?

There was a yellow flag because of Chilton's car on the grass just before Carlube. Tom did start his move on Fab before they were past there. He did appear to have a good overlap going into Carlube, but it did also seem a bit optimistic. (I was watching at the chicane). On the whole, I thought the penalty was a bit harsh, especially if he wasn't being penalized for passing under a yellow flag.

Don't know about what the stewards are doing, but Plato seems to have picked up that "godlike luck" that Neal had last year, any closer and he could have also been involved in the TOC/Gio incedent, and there was that pile-up at brands where he had Adam Jones on his bonnet, the sort of incidents which caused him DNFs last year

Partially alongside is not enough, in fact, by the time they got to Clarks TOC touched his rear wheels - what does that tell you about how far alongside he was?

maximus

He was where he was because he realised Gio wasn't going to give him enough room so he backed off.

Partially alongside is not enough

Enough that Giovanardi probably should have given Onslow-Cole enough room.

Gee are you still arguing bout this incident - it is over and done with lads and it is part and parcel of the sport - - gets the adrenalin pumping!

bigred
5th Sep 2007, 08:03 PM
yea the incident is over but its significance in the championship is reflected in the points totals
toc lost 4th place and 2nd place points in the race and independent championships
team rac lost independent and team points
plato giovanardi and jordan gained points

so now we have the things going to the last weekend which from the organisers point of view is perfect (not that im synical)

im sure someone with time on their hands will do the maths if toc wasnt excluded not to mention the wot if senarios for races 2 and 3

Both were involved, Plato in the middle, Turner outside and pushed onto the grass. There was also a fourth car involved

I'm hoping too. And at the moment its looking quite possible. Dream scenario for impartial spectators - Gio finishes ahead of Plato in first two races to tie on points. Reverse grid on race three puts Jason just ahead of Gio.

not as dissapointed as me mate if he doesnt win. I have allot of respect for gio he has had a good season and to be fare to him he does deserve to win it but like ive said this is the british touring cars and for me it has to be a british driver i know that might sound in some kind of way racist but this is a british championship and if it cant be kartworld who are going to win lol then i think its platos turn have the title

I respect your opinion that you wish a British driver to win the BTCC, but I just hope the best man wins the championship, whether Italian or British. Personally I hope it will be the Italian national anthem we hear!!

I don't think they will be given any special dispensation at Thruxton, the other drivers may be more wary though around them on the road. You wouldn't want to be the driver that decided the championship by bashing a contenter of the road.

I think Fabrizio is feeling the pressure, for most of race day on Sunday his face looked like a slapped backside.

I will be cheering for Plato to win the Championship if only so we don't have to hear that Italian Anthem. Is it just me or does it last twice as long as ours?

What I also want is a Team RAC 1-2 in all 3 races closely followed by a couple of black and green MGs. Fiona must have run out of bad luck by now.

PS I also can't believe the inconsistancies of the clerk of the course in excluding TOC for a move that only merited a slap on the wrist for Gio when he did it at Brands. (In fact it was much worse.) But then it would have meant a less tight final round at Thruxton. Or am I being cynical.

I hope not Cassandra - this tussle between Mat and Matt - - - well as far as I can see, Jackson knows how to let it lie but it's obvious Neal doesn't! I think it's about time he showed his professionalism and just let it go...we are just one event away from the end of the season and for him to continue on like this is only going to spoil it for everyone else!

Personally, I much prefer the Italian anthem - it's just so much more... well... fun! Lets face it, even Michael Schumacher couldn't resist messing about a little to it.
