ive wondered this now for a while, in the toca rules book is there a rule that says 'No ABS, traction, launch or stability control systems?'

To me when watching nothing seems to be obvious that driver aids are being used, but are they banned or not?

I'm pretty certain driving aids are outlawed by TOCA.

There was a bit of controversy a decade ago after the 92 season when BMW left series because TOCA wouldn't allow ABS, although BMW came back the following year can anyone shed some light on this?

The 1992 Vic Lee BMW Coupes certainly had ABS- presumably the Prodrive cars did as well. I won't swear to this, but I seem to remember reading that in response, Vauxhall experimented with ABS on the Cavalier- and used an ABS system with BMW origins.....

I'm sure ABS was banned at the end of 92. At one point it was reckoned to be very unlikely that BMW would come back for 93, but I can't remember whether it was over the ABS issue, the fallout from the famous championship deciding race at Silverstone (think there were rumours in the press that BMW GB were very embarrassed by the Cleland/Soper incident...) or whatever

The Prodrive cars did have it, but for some reason weren't as competitive as the VLM cars were. Jeff Allam experimented with ABS at the Pembrey round in 1992. I don't know if this was a one off or not though.
