Wow... it's been an eventful end of the week.
Thursday I drove to my friends house in Birmingham and stayed there overnight, was driving back home on friday with 2 of my friends from down there when, 5 miles after we set off (with 235 miles still to go), this happened:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v418/nukez/carwindow.jpg
The window just blew out, the car was starting to steam up inside, so I put the de-mister on, next thing I know there's a huge BANG right next to me, and the window wasn't there... I was doing 50mph at the time and it scared me s**tless! Nobody was hurt, Although I had a fair bit of glass on my arms and legs, but I was wearing a jumper so none went in me.
Luckily about 100 yards down the road there was a layby. We were in that layby for 4 hours, and spent nearly an hour and a half on the phone to my dad, insurance companies and RAC windows! A 5 hour trip back up home took 9 1/2 hours instead (we got home and went straight to the pub!).
I didn't have anything thrown at me, there was nobody around, and the way the glass shattered out it made it obvious that the de-mister blew the window out.
When the bloke from RAC Windows finally found us (took him a while and a fair few phone calls), he pulled the door apart to fit the new window, and also pulled out a bit of plastic and told me that's from the window mechanism, so 2 things could have happened.
1. The window blowing out took the mechanism with it
2. The mechanism was already broken which weakened the old window and the slight temparature difference on both sides blew it out.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? I'm a bit wary now when I put the demister on incase it happens again. Also which of the 2 above things would be the most likely/believable cause? as I'll have to say to Ford what happened.

slim chance someone may have tried to brake in the car hitting the window low in the left hand side this would weaken the structure of the glass harns when moving pressure of air flowing over the car instent brake down
good job u ok thats what counts and u didn t have a bigger crash

oh my Mr_x ... you ok?
I have never heard of that happening before ... I would have absolutely been petrified!
the only thing thats happened to me before regarding the drivers window was during the summer this year, trying to look cool with my shades on, music blaring and window half way down ... got home on the drive, pressed the button to put the window up and the clips in the bottom of the door keeping the glass up snapped and the glass actually fell down into the door ... that was scary enough but i think if it had happened the way it happened with you whilst driving at 50mph, you all would have heard my screams

Now you mention it, it could be possible, it was parked on a driveway outside a house in Birmingham for a night, but I didn't notice any damage to the glass on the morning (I notice small things very quickly!). I was quite lucky in the sense that I didn't panic, I just saw the layby instantly and stopped the car in there.

Yeah I'm ok, the other 2 people who were with me didn't get hit by any glass at all, as I said i was wearing a jumper so glass just landed on my clothes, was able to get out and brush myself off.
There's still bits of glass dropping out the door too, I might have to pull it apart and get the hoover in there. Or get Ford to do it when i get the window mechanism fixed
The funny thing was, when I was on the phone to RAC Windows, after giving them my address/insurance details, saying what happened and telling them I was 5 miles outside Birmingham they said "can you drive the car home?" to which I replied "I just told you I live in County Durham, my home is well over 200 miles from where I am now, The car is unsafe to drive, what do you think my answer to that question will be?" to which I got the reply "oh, fair enough then."

ah yeah he was definitely clean and tidy ... he is only 22 afterall and is only wearing clothes which all my male friends wear, but I think he has definitely got a dark side which we have yet to see ... whether that be his 'pimp my rides' or his 'huge rims' ... I don't know!
Also Richard Hammond done a great job showing us exactly how hard it is to drive an F1 car ... it can't be done by just anyone and for this I was actually glued to the screen ... all the F1 drivers really do have a lot of hard work, hence their huge pay packet!

ah yeah he was definitely clean and tidy ... he is only 22 afterall and is only wearing clothes which all my male friends wear, but I think he has definitely got a dark side which we have yet to see ... whether that be his 'pimp my rides' or his 'huge rims' ... I don't know!
Also Richard Hammond done a great job showing us exactly how hard it is to drive an F1 car ... it can't be done by just anyone and for this I was actually glued to the screen ... all the F1 drivers really do have a lot of hard work, hence their huge pay packet!
I was surprised when Richard mentioned how quick he was needed to think, but was unable to.
Goes to show how fast those cars actually are.
I wonder if he was thinking about last years crash?

do you think 22inch diamond encrusted rims would fit on his mclaren? they'd probo weigh twice as much as the rest of the car.

Quick car update for those who read page 36's post (http://www.btcc.net/forum/showpost.php?p=63106&postcount=533).
I phoned Ford to get it booked in to get the window mechanism fixed, and they're going to pick my car up and drop it off again from my house, tomorrow, free of charge, and the window mechanism should be repaired under warrenty too, and the bloke said "We'll have a good check over of it to make sure it doesn't happen again". :)

Top gear was on at 9pm tonight Laura... Nevermind it doesn't matter anyway if you can watch the repeat on Wednesday. Worth doing it was one of the best of the series with the 24 hour race being covered. I narrowly missed getting on tv as I was just off camera in several shots!
Had to laugh at them being happy at beating the Boston Bowl car, that was Fiona's MG ZR that was withdrawn the week before (She ended up racing for another team.), it wasn't even in the same county never mind the qualifying session!
Actually what had happened was they had replaced her entry with another team and forgotten to change the timing screens, caused a lot of confusion at the track on the day too.

Who knew a signatures colours could cause so much discussion! Thanks Heidi for the nice comments. :)
I'm with Rob I would love to have the yellow for Seat, but as I said it's too bright, which means I would then need to have orange, which wouldn't be right...
Maybe they'll change to a new yellow scheme for 2009 season...

Ooooooooooooooooo hi guys, am lost with this forum now - couldnt get on the past couple of nights for connections errors - strange!
as for my xmas party guest(s) - thats a tough question: if you're talking driver then it would have to be plato or schumacher and if you're talking any celebrity personality then it would either have to be rob collier (liam in coronation street) or Richard, Jeremy and James as a team!
Oh and Ted, I haven't joined any other forums - this is the only forum I'm part of so for this you all should be proud of me as my free time is dedicated all to you lot hee hee!!!!!

erm...quite some time is free but i would say 70% of my time on here is spent whilst working on freelance stuff as well ... i just minimize the window and every few mins i check it and post if I can - been busy lately though with the freelance side of things and also with my novel cos as well as writing my huge novel, I've moved into children's story, which one of is completed and has gone to print - should get it back next week ... when i'll take a pic and pop it on here for you guys to have a look at and who knows, if you have children in the family then you can have one as the children's stories are bespoke to the point where the main girl or boy character in the story will represent whoever you want it to represent - name, clothes, hair colour, eye colour etc ... I'm hoping to make this a big marketing thing in schools etc ...
if youwant any further info let me know cos if I blubber on anymore about itm I may get in trouble from Editor1 ;)

talking of books, i was surprised to read about dcs one when he was slagging ron dennis off for mika as the chosen driver. hard to belive in some races, david had to move over more times for mika then what was shown on tv.
i agree about what he said if he stayed at williams in 1997, he could of had a big chance to become champ instead of being tied down with team orders at mclearn.

The latest version of Internet Explorer is version 7, so maybe an upgrade is in order?
Or use Firefox, which lets you add different modules.
Both of these seem to work okay with Batracer.

It's yonks since SoZ got banned - he was warned about general silliness, then criticized the mods, so he got banned. He came back as Cassandra, but got himself banned again for being irrelevant and silly. Don't worry though, if you get too silly I'm sure the mods will warn you.
