Hello,

I saw the above on channel4 this morning (2.30am) and it was showing a review of the 2007 season; from Brands - Croft, with the rest of the races to follow. Unfortunately I did not record it and have failed to find the next show in the series in the tv guide. It looks like a good summary of the season, if anybody can find it in the channel4 listings please let me know when by posting a reply.

many thanks

Your not really missing much IMHO.

I like it when they chat to people not normally interviewed but that is all. Apart from the presenter. The race commentary sounds like it is aimed at a younger audience and the information aimed at a more neutral audience. Nothing that I haven't really heard before.

Still good to see any BTCC.

i watched it this morning for the first time this series and i have to say it was ok...didn't find it a nuisance like some of you on here have...it was based mostly on the rivalry between neal and plato this morning along with the success of giovanardi so far up until brands hatch...his house he's renovating in italy looks amazing by the way!!!

well it was on the Sky Guide as last weeks bein repeated yesterday on Bravo so i put it on record and when i went to watch it this mornin it was some rubbish called Monster Jam. Whatever possesed them to repeat it on Bravo, Bravo sucks.

Hi Guys,
Have any of you been watching the racing rivals documentary series on channel 4 on a sunday morning? When I heard about it I thought that it would be really good, with lots of behind the scenes action, in the garage after races, and drivers disagreeing etc. Its a bit of a let down I find, because all you get is race highlights, meet a driver, and the odd interview, and John cleland explaining something. Put that all into half an hour, and showing two meetings, then it all feels a bit rushed to me. An hour per meeting would have been better, showing things like the drivers briefing, team de-briefings etc. I'm interested to hear what you all feel

I agree when they done the programme on seat cupra swhen rob huff won it was alot better with the behind the sceens bits and bobs. but i am still sky+ing this racing rivals because it has got some interesting bits on it, just like what the different drivers like to do when they are not at the track. matt neals and jason platos comments are funny about each other to, to be honest it is soo pants it is good and i am enjoying watching it. :)

I agree with you Heidi, lets be fair there isn't enough coverage of the btcc on tv outside of the race day, so when you get something you have to watch it whatever sort of coverage you get

It's okay, but it isn't long enough for my liking. It could easily be an hour long.

Hopefully the review DVDs will include a whole lot more coverage, as it's 7 hours long.

I will be watching next Sunday, as it is the last round and we were there, so it will be good to watch from the other side.

the biggest problem i have with it is that the championship is over and we all know what happened. I think it would have been better if it was a) longer and b) kept up with the series rather than starting when championship is already finished.

kezbabybabe
4th Nov 2007, 10:58 AM
Yeah, it would have been better to show it as the series went on, though its nice to catch up on it now, as we didn't see some of it.

Plus it kills time while waiting for March to come around. :)

Oh Laura, that's a shame.

If you have Freeview or Satellite you can view it again on Channel 4+1 and hour later. Something to remember for next weeks episode at Thruxton.

I had missed about 15 minutes of it this morning, due to waking up a little late, so I caught the whole thing later on.

Though looking back on it not much happened in the first half, apart from the amusement of watching a 6ft 6inch Matt Neal trying to get out of his car and his complaining about the crash with Mat Jackson. :p

I can't comment on that, as I haven't seen all the TV footage this year. :o

I will say that Plato didn't complain once about his burns or use them as an excuse for not winning the BTCC.

I'm not starting any arguments, just voicing a view. :)

Blimey guys, this is a sport! It's not the media that fuels these rivalries between drivers.. It's forums like these that do! How long will these comments go on for?

It wouldn't be BTCC without rivalry. :)

Robbo
5th Nov 2007, 11:22 PM
Plato! i dont think its hatred between those 2 i think its just passionate (or maybe extremely passionate) rivalry because they both wanna be winning and they both dont like being second and when they come up against each other theres usually a lot of dented panels and a lot of paint swapping.

kezbabybabe
5th Nov 2007, 11:29 PM
They are probably both very similar in terms of passion and may be part of the reason that Matt moved to VXR.

It would be very difficult to be part of BTCC without being passionate, the same goes for the fans!

Welcome aboard Diddyman.

I'd like to think that 99% of us on here appreciate the racing and can discuss incidents without getting into personal arguments, but the Neal/Plato debate does get rather heated sometimes.

As a Team RAC / Colin Turkington supporter, my own position is:

I used to like both Neal and Plato. They've both always been very competitive, and they're both "robust" drivers - I've got no problem with that, being an Anthony Reid fan.

What began to annoy me about Matt (and still does) was the way he started to complain about other drivers all the time. Yes, he may have had an occasional valid complaint, but it seemed that not a meeting went past without him whingeing, and he pulled the same sort of moves that he complained about others doing. (No doubt there are diehard Matt Neal Fans who will disagree, but I've got no axe to grind and I'm trying to be objective about this).

I went off Jason a bit when his driving got too aggressive a couple of years ago - a little tap is one thing, but he was getting rather OTT. However his cynical sense of humour always amuses me, so I can't dislike him, and this year he does seem to have been a bit better behaved. Interestingly, on Racing Rivals, he said that there are heroes and villains, and he chooses to be more of a villain, which I think shows that he appreciates the entertainment side of things. (How was that for getting back on topic?;) )

absolutely hit the nail on the head there chuck ... and kezbabybabe, it is down to their driving skills and i think because both matt and jason are soooo competitive they clash ... but it's entertainment for us and jason wants to be the villain so hey, let them be!

As jason said, he's not in the sport to be liked or loved, it's his job and at the end of the day, if people dont like him, then he aint going to lose sleep over it!

I think thats a good motto for any of us to take on...

Judging by the number of us that have Plato for champion in their signatures there are plenty here that do like him. Likewise for Matt Neal.

I suppose we should all be mindful of the language we use, as there are members here who would read it as though it is quite strong language, like as happened.

I agree with Diddyman. There does seem to be hatred on this forum toward certain drivers (Mainly Matt Neal and Jason Plato from there fans). I know from viewing a couple of meetings in person that all the drivers are friends with each other, you just need to look at Thruxton where almost all other drivers went over to see if Jason was ok. How ever friends dont exsist on the race track unless its your team mate with orders.

And we should remember that the media can edit what we see, so that they can make the "rivalry" between racers seem bigger.

And now back on topic: I agree the show could do with being longer as it is a bit of a squeeze. How ever what some of you said about the show still going on even though the season has finished, that will be because the people who make the show have to edit it to try and look the best.

laurat
13th Nov 2007, 09:05 PM
gatesgarage i agree with what you see, but for every positive thing there is always a negative no matter what the issue is in life, and unfortunately this is how it seems to work ... but i suppose it is down to our control - if we couldn't speculate though about certain things, then life would be boring

you have to admit that without the plato and neal rivalry it would be a bit boreing wouldnt it,and in some ways make it even more boreing for both fans and the teams.
