There's been stories going around for a while about Alex Zanardi and the "suprise" he has planned for the CART race at Eurospeedway and now it seems to be official (as incredible as it sounds).
The plan is for Alex to drive a replica of his old car to complete last 13 laps of the race and take the chequered flag he should have seen 2 years ago. I didn't believe it until I saw the story on the official website.
His courage never ceases to amaze me.

Whatever Alex has planned, I wish him luck. The sheer guts he has displayed following his accident at Lausitz deserves recognition - and what better way to demonstrate it.

He's proved himself to be one incredible guy and the depth of his courage puts us ordinary mortals to shame.

I reckon there will be barely a dry eye in the place if this happens.
Anyone who saw his interview on ITVs F1 programme last year cannot fail to have been moved. A driver who survives such an horrific accident and then says that they consider themselves to have had a good life, with little to complain about has my total respect.

The man is a true hero. I really really hope that this happens.

He's not taking it easy either, ceefax says he did a top speed of 192.9 mph in a practice for his run tomorrow!

37.487 was his time today! Would have put him 5th on the grid for today's race!

They showed part of Alex Zanardis drive before the race on telly tonight. Also a huge 2 page article about him in the Sunday Times today. Said he'd had the longest pit stop in history and was now coming back to finish his last 13 laps.
Lump in throat reading the article and again watching him on TV. Very brave man. Certainly puts everyday moans and groans into perspective.

Saw that too Jackie - bit of an understatement this but the guy deserves a medal.

Perhaps we will see a comeback?

Alex Zanardi appeared on Eurosport on Sunday as part of the Champ Car highlights. Thoroughly deserved every pat on the back and congratulation. Wish I had read the Sunday Times piece. These F1 types with inflated egos have much to learn about humility.

Autosport says that Alex has been linked to a drive in the Daytona 24hrs next year! That and he talks generally about being able to race again if he wanted to. Just incredible!
