View Full Version : Should BTCC and ASCAR race on the same day at the Rock?

Following the success of the BTCC-CART venture at Brands Hatch, in which 40,000 attended, I believe a similar strategy should be used at Rockingham.
My guess is the BTCC race, on its own, would attract somewhere in the margin of 15-20,000 fans. If ASCAR were to be on hand as well, that figure could rise by a further 10,000.

Why not? The more "high-profile" meetings the better. I was disappointed that there is only 1 joint F3/GT-BTCC meeting this year when they attracted such a big crowd last year.
btw, whatever happened to ASCAR running at Brands Indy?

The suspensions of the some of the cars were unsuitable for turning right!

Oh well... I understood they were going to race on May Day bank holiday weekend... but obviously CART took priority... it would be interesting to see them on a 'road course' (as the Americans call it...)

I think ASCAR made a conscious decision to stick to the ovals for a while.
Not absolutely sure about Peters statement about some of the cars not being able to turn right, as I understood last year that all the chassis were "straight" (some more than others!!). There were other minor points too - like a lack of wing mirrors!
They did test one or two cars at Donington too as I recall.
Having said all that it would be interesting - nearest we would get to Oz V8's in this country, but I think one of the wider circuits would be required.

If ASCAR tackle a road course, it should be Thruxton. Imagine seeing them get sideways through Church!

That's far too scary to contemplate!

BTCC and ASCAR would be awesome, but who would get the garages? The regulars or the visitors? Would be even better if you could combine that with the GT/F3 package to make a Mega Super Days of Thunder Weekend.
I reckon you would easily get 40,000+, if it was promoted properly you might even get full capacity (55,000). I wouldn't expect it to be cheap though, maybe £35-40 advance booking.

I would like to see BTCC and ASCAR racing together at Rockingham. It would be even better if we could get the SEAT Cupra Championship on the same day!

Sure, why not? No matter how much of a diehard motorsport fan you are everyone needs some time away from the racing during the day to grab a bite to eat, go talk to the drivers, etc. The Ascar race would present an excellent opportunity to go off and do your own thing without risking missing anything interesting on track.

surprise!! you can actually get 2 cars in each of rockinghams 36 garages compared to some other circuits so as long as the multi car teams share there wouldn't be a problem and the pit road's wide enough to avoid the "pitfalls" of brands.

Oh dear - another knock anything you don't understand person. I would have expected better from you Craig. You obviously were not at The Rock last weekend, there was more than enough excitement even for you, believe me!! :D

i think that it would be interesting to see if both the btcc and ascar together makes a difference to the number of spectators. it would make for an interesting race meeting.

ASCAR & BTCC on the same programme? Adrenalin overload!!!!
ASCAR at Thruxton? Can you imagine those things slip streaming up Woodham Hill! Can you imagine them getting through the chicane in one piece? :D

Go for it!! :D
The ASCAR's would certainly prove to be an exciting event on any 'road' circuit. If they do it in the States in places like Watkins Glen, then why not here?
