Personally i think his best race was when he won the Silverstone 1996 gp support race the first win for the honda accord in the btcc.

Another top race was Oulton Park 1999 when his brakes were fading during the last few laps of the race to finish 5th to keep his title chances alive.

WTCC commentary wont be same again

For me it had to be the Night Race at Snetterton or the Feature Race at Donington Park, Both during the 1999 season.

Keeping Aiello behind you is an amazing feat in itself, Even though Aiello was being told to not pass Leslie, I think he would have defied team orders and passed him, Leslie did all he could to keep him behind and eventually won the race :D

Didn't he give honda its first btcc win at thruxton in '96, when he held off a hard charging frank biela? If so that is my best race moment for him

Yeah, I was at the silverstone finale, when Aiello was at the back of the start grid, and was gutted when at the end of the green flag lap David went into the pits instead of on tho the grid, so starting by Aiello instead of up the front, which would have helped him close the gap.

He could have going into Silverstone, But the race was red flagged and they were given the points for the positions they were in, And unfortunatly Aiello got enough points to keep him out of Leslies reach of the title :(

I don't ever remember the support race, I don't remember it being shown on TV. Was that to do with F1 Tv rights or something, I have the '96 season review and it doesn't show it there either.

It always seemed Leslie was great at helping teams develop. He had that Honda flying at the end of '96 and then him and Reid in the Nissan. Those were the days.

Anyway best race, ummm Oulten '99 and Donnington '99 stand out but i think for me it was the night race at Snetterton.

First was the silverstone F1 support race, but it was a non-championship event, Thruxton was the first championship win.
As for best race, it has to be the win in the Ecosse Cavelier, think it was 93. By that time manufacturers had taken over, and privateers were no longer front-runners, except Leslie

I was at the 1996 British Grand Prix where David Leslie gave Honda their first ever BTCC win.

It was also the first time i was ever introduced to Touring Cars..

If you look on youtube, there's a clip of that incident Rusty. :)

1996 British GP was a double header meeting, a race on Saturday and a race on Sunday - both for championship points.

I think his best races were in the Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier, especially the old car in 1992. If it hadn't been for team orders from Vauxhall, he would have won that final round.

for me it's the night race at Snetterton in 1999, still driving that car with broken suspension and finishing 2nd was a brilliant result, he would have won without that failure.

The accident between Leslie and Bintcliffe was at Silverstone 1997, They came through turn 2 into the Ireland Hairpin and Leslie got hit sending both cars into the barricades.

The night race was Snetterton where Leslie won the 1st race and had problems in the feature race but still managed to finish, I think.

He drove well for Proton and helped them become a force in BTCC. A fantastic driver.

I must say I agree with previous post. Thruxton 93 is probably David Leslie's greatest win in BTCC. That was his first and the first for the RML Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier. He probably should've won more races in that Cav as it was ****** quick that year. It was special as it was a privateer entry in a very competitive series.

Also, although he didn't win any races in '92 that was possibly his greatest season simply because that was a really old hat Cav and it embarrassed many greater budget works cars and he (and BVR) dragged some great performances from the old thing!

He must have worked well with Ray Mallock because whatever they worked on together they turned the cars in to Championship winners.

Yeah Leslie finished second at the end. It was impressive, cus Cox could only get past him on the final lap

He should have won at Pembrey and Brands in 1993 as well, had it not been for reliability and being punted out. :(
