Ex WTCC 320si
Bumpers

Just interested really in what kind of expense touring cars brings.

i would expect an ex WTCC E90 to cost somewhere close to £100k if not more, because i think they cost like £150k as it is. And for all the parts i would imagine that if you bought the car off a works WTCC team then they could throw you a deal with the price of the car to supply you with all the parts that you would need.

320 e90 front bumper is carbon fibre and checks out at about 3k
if memory serves me right 170k plus vat was the price of a new e90 gearbox/engine dent the bank account between 30 and 40 k
so even a small team is gonna need a budget close to 500k for a seasons racing per car if they are buying a new car and enuff bits to keep it looking and going right

Most touring car bumpers are glass fibre rather than carbon fibre. The doors are the same as the road cars but without all the interior workings.

It depends on the car - a lot are carbon fibre now

3k for a bumper is silly considering it's just a bumper. I remember someone saying the ones for the civic were 700 because they were glass fibre.

Why would a front bumper on a touring car be carbon ?
I think you are wrong as weight is not a issue as they are set to tight setings so the money would just be a waste.
To give some more info on cost martin bell's BMW from last season was for sale at £56k

Martyns E90 is £65k +vat, plus spares. I know it was a lot more than that 2 years ago when he bought it.
Racing budget for a year is from about £150k, and same again for a reasonable car and spares package.
Weight itself is not that much of an issue, however weight distribution can be. So saving weight in one place can help to add it where needed in another.

OUCH!!! looks like I'm going to have to play as many lottery's as I possibly can ... The National, The Irish, a bit of gambling at the casino and anything else I can think of

The s2000 rules changed a few years back to allow carbon fibre body parts rather than standard metal, I think this was introduced to aid cars in getting down the base weight because standard cars are getting heavier and stronger which can make getting down to the base weight harder.

Witout any problems of any sort...to just get the car on the grid you need 150K.15k per weekend per car is a ball park figure
The cars them selves vary between brands some come with better packages than others. Some are just a shell and a engine deal is extra. If you can afford carbon fiber panels over fiber glass panels they are lighter.ABSmotorsports also provide the chevy panels i think.ABS do some cracking road car body kits i remember there Minis they use to build

The reason many cars run carbon fibre noses is because the splitter contains the ducting for the radiator, engine air intake and brake ducts. Also the fixing method to the car is incorporated, so it is much easier for the designers to use carbon.

Carbon front will tend to break up if say you run a curb and become unrepairable were as a fiber glass one tends to become just punctured and can be patched and reused as a spare. So yea i suppose budget is the key as the carbon ones are expensive although are slightly lighter

It has to be aerodynamically structered, Has to have a splitter applied and after that keeping it as light as they can, Im not sure which is lighter though, Glass Fibre or Carbon Fibre
