View Full Version : Starting in motorsport - Yes i kno probablly posted loads of times!

sorry everyone if this has been posted before. but after i have finished my a levels is that i want to get involved in motorsport particually touring cars. i dont know where to start though do i get an apprentiship or something as a mechanic somewhere (that is the general area im looking in) or what. any feedback would come in very very useful. Thanks very much

It might be worth checking out the "Motorsport Engineering" course at Oxford Brookes university. From what I've heard, students can go on to get work placements at people like Prodrive and other big motorsport names.

A couple of other ideas for you:

1) Talk to some mechanics when you're at the circuit - find out from them how they got started and ask for tips on who to talk to. Although they're invariably busy, most of them will find time to chat if you show interest in what they are doing.

2) Contact the RACMSA and find out where your local motor clubs are. You'll probably find there are several in your area. Most of them are involved in the various competitive aspects of the sport, particularly at the grass roots level e.g. Metro Cup, Lo-Cost saloons, Mini Se7ens etc and can always use extra pairs of hands.
