Mondello Park and i think ive read in Alan Gow's section of the forum that the teams had to pay to ship the cars over and the teams werent prepared to pay that extra. I might be wrong but i think from what ive read in that section thats what it was. Ill stand to be corrected though if there's anyone who knows the exact reason :)

Yup basically it boils down to cost!

Is it also too small to fit the BTCC paddock and support races paddocks?

dont think so, i just think it was the costs of going just that little way over sea that hampered it

They fitted in fine in 2005 and 2006 and if anything there are less in the support paddock now. Everything I've been told suggests that it was done to the costs of getting everything over there which the teams would rather not have to pay out. Several smaller teams aren't keen on going to Knockhill for the same reasons. (Except the teams based in the north already!)

It's a fair point, as they'd have to ferry all the lorries over, whereas Knockhill they would still only need to use the road.
I know this will should selfish but I don't think we would travel to Mondello Park due to the expense of flying and staying there. I understand that this is the same for those that live in Ireland wishing to see the England/Scotland rounds.

Firstly;thanks for the heads up on the circuit name all who replied, that;s stopped the old grey matter rattling!!:D
Secondly; i didn;t want to ask Alan Gow in case it;s already been asked!
Thirdly;i;d agree that it was probably more due to costs/logistics of shipping everything over to Ireland.
Thanks for contributing to the thread, feel free to continue posting your opinions.

or some mega powerful binoculars when i last watched,:p is it not true that that was another reason to put a stop to mondello; the relatively lowd crowd turnout???

Being Half Irish and having Family out there, I would probably try to get there atleast once if the BTCC ever decided to return to Mondello.
I did actually Ask Alan after they announced the '08 Calender, To my Knowledge it was about Costs and some Teams just didnt want to Make the Journey.
I reckon we will eventually see it back on the BTCC calender someday.

doubt it, unless the sponsors will pay for the shipping of the cars

FYI there is a track in northern ireland called kirkliston but it isnt up to BTCC standards

i think ur refering to kirkiston rather than kirlliston, and no it deffo not up to most standards even the sheep poop on it. speaking as someone from northern ireland who has traveled over to all of last years races and most of this years to date u guys are soiled being able to hop in a car and drive albeit 5 or 6 hours to a venue.
i know for a fact that ferry companies do subtantial discounts for motor sports coming to compete in ireland hence i find the teams complaining about cost a little hard to believe. so not being synical at all the reasons for the btcc not coming to ireland any more are deeper than teams pockets.
