Having looked on another touring car site(not official,it;s run by enthusiasts),i found a pic of the drivers parade that used to take place before the racing,Cleland used to stand on the door(the showboater...:D )

Anyway, what happened to this, when was it withdrawn??

Would anyone like to see this brought back(if possible)??

I thought this would make a change from all the rumour threads,so your thoughts please.:)

there were the occasional drivers parade laps this year. It all depended on the timetable and mostly happened when there was a late start like at oulton Park.
It was different though in that all the drivers were on the back of the podium truck and not in private cars.

That;s what i;d like to see,the drivers in a roadgoing version of their race cars,it made for good photo oppertunities for those who don;t go into the paddock area.

I like the idea. It gives the people who do not go on the pit walk a chance to see the drivers pretty close - as close as a lot of people get

Bring back the drivers parade in the road cars and the 1/2 hr warm up first thing before the racing begins. Not all tracks did this. But great to watch, a great excitement builder before the first race.

Yeah the drivers parade was always good, they should do it in there individual cars as when there on the podium truck you cant differentiate between the drivers! It was always good for photos and allowed the drivers to show some personality and character,

On my first visit to Castle Combe yesterday they did a parade of the winners after each race. I thought that was a great idea and should be implemented into the BTCC. They go round just before the next race starts.

They use to have the old Lorry that went around the Track..

I remember they use to do a lap where all the drivers would be in Road Versions of their Super Touring Automobiles >D

most of the parades that happen currently are help at times when, for local reasons racing engines cant be run. croft have a flatbed that all the drivers stand on and they are driven round waving etc, the schedule on race day is pretty tight so fitting in a victory lap i would think is nearly impossible, the winning cars also go straight to parc firme so they cant really be driven until they have been weighted measures etc.

They still have it, its the podium truck! They did a parade at Thruxton and Oulton this year. There may have been more but I missed them! It depends on schedules etc whether they run them. It doesn't really make any difference to me either way, as I wouldn't say they are the highlight of the weekend!

I know, I was at all 10 Meetings this year remember ;) :p

What im saying is the Podium use to go all around the track (at brands atleast) With the 3 winning Drivers..

They've started doing that again at Brands for all the club races with a modified Range Rover. There's not enough room in the schedule during BTCc weekends to do it though and I'd rather not have it and be able to leave earlier at the end of the day!:)

of course there is time in the BTCC schedule they could run a car round between the formation and the green flag lap of the next race (BSB has a tighter schedule than BTCC and they manage to fit it in). As for wanting to get home do like alot of the others do and leave after the last BTCC race rather than watch all the races.

But during that time the marshalls come on track to clear any debris and the course car runs round to collect any reports from Marshalls and to inspect the track. That can't happen while something else is going on. Anything extra on track is going to add to the schedule and as there are 3 BTCC races in the day this would have to happen 3 times.

I want to see all the races but it seems pointless to delay the schedule unnescessarily. Personally I'm there to see racing (Photograph these days!) and having the drivers parade round after every race wouldn't add anything for me. I know what they look like already!;)

I reckon it would be a good idea to bring the drivers parade back before the first race of the day......be like choosing your gladiater before the fight(he says tounge in cheek):)

They had one at Donnington a few years back when Matt Neal drove the flat bed down Craners over the grass and all the drivers were hanging on wondering who the hell was driving the lorry. Very amusing.

The drivers parades were good when they were in individual cars. Jan Lammers had a full size toy alsation with him in '94 when volvo first entered with the 850 estate. Did anyone ever find out how cleland managed to balance on the window of the car? I've got a photo of it and you cant see how he does it!! I think that instead of having an extra support series they could have the drivers parade again and possibly a morning warm up a la donnington. After all its the btcc we all go to watch, so the more times you see them the better.

We all know Halfords have a car prepared and ready to go

(Not that they use it for parade laps, Normally for competition winners to get a drive around a particular track with Flash or Sonic driving)

I've always enjoyed the drivers parade. Waving to all the drivers. I think I remember the Matt Neal one where he nearly went of at the Old Hairpin. I haven't seen one since

Or he can't keep his balance sttod on a moving vehicle.

I hope they do bring back the old style parades in the private road cars, with the drivers sat on the roofs with legs through the sunroofs.

We can see who has the best shades then

it has been mentioned to Alan Gow before.... his comment was the teams have more important things to spend their money on, and lack of time in the schedule.
I would much prefer Micky have a set of new tyres than to hire a new Civic type R at every meeting

Yeah they do them at thruxton in the morning when there a break because of the church but they dont go around the whole circuit and as its the morning hardly any drivers wave or anything.

I was only thinking about this the other day. I suppose it was easier when there were 90% works car and the drivers employers could send them round in the road goers.

I remember a truck going round at Thruxton last year and as it drove into the complex (where most of the crowd were), it turned off and went round behind the paddock before it got to us!
