i think its time to say bye bye to the older spec btc cars and allow more space on the grid for newer models and teams that can stay on the same lap as the current s2000 spec

I take it you like having small grids then? The bit about them being able to stay on the same lap is rubbish, BTC Spec cars finished on the podium last year and all of them at one time or other raced with the S2000 cars. I can't see any logical reason for banning them.

why ban cars that are still doing well? granted they may no longer be running at the front all the time but as marc says this would really reduce grid numbers. think of all of the smaller teams that would not have the finances to make the step to a new car.
this would be all well and good if there were loads of cars waiting to take there place but there aint and why remove someone who has been around for ages because there may be a replacement???
seems a little silly to me.

I wouldn't ban, I would just let them gradually fall out of use in the championship. The BTC-spec cars are perfectly capable of fighting with the S2000 cars of the same age.

There's plenty of room on the grid for newer models already, the BTC-spec cars aren't stopping newer S2000 cars coming in.

I could understand if we had full grids and were turning teams away, but that isn't the case.
Realistically how many BTC cars are we going to have next year anyhow. Maybe Doyle's Civic and a couple of Kartworld MGs. Neither team have the funds to upgrade to S2000 so if you ban BTC they will just walk away.

The older cars will eventually be fazed out, at the current rate i can't see them lasting much longer than 2010, but i agree, keep them for now.

Where are these teams meant to come from?? Just because there would be more 'space' on the grid doesnt neccesarily mean more teams will come along

why???
we dont want another 2001 again do we???
more cars on the grid means more action......so what if they arent fighting with the big boys....they are fighting with each other which means more to watch!!

I agree VkmSponge. That's why Alan Gow et al have not banned them already, cos they know they will die out of their own accord as the S2000 spec cars are sold on.

i don think they need banning- as such, sure they arent as competitve, but in the right hands they are very good!!!
they will be out of commision in about five years in the championship because they smaller teasm may feel the need to be totlally competitve and fove forward with technology.
but anyway- as for banning them- no because grids would fall by about 10 cars and there wouldnt be as much action because they provide thrills(but mostly spills:D :D )

No
We don't need a grid full of S2000 Beemers thanks, We already have the WTCC for that..
and anyway, Like people have said, They will get Rarer and eventually die out.

Did we have 32 cars in the 2008 season? No (Sadly :( )
We had roughly 5 (7 if you count both Lexus' before they switched to Toledo's) BTC-Spec cars out of an average grid of 23.
I see 9 free spaces for more cars, be it S2000 spec or BTC-spec. So there is no need for anything to be phased out. ;)

You shouldn't count the Lexus IS200s as they are Super 2000 spec. In 2008 there were 8 BTC-spec cars; 4 Honda Integras, 1 Honda Civic, 1 MG ZS and 2 Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatches (and for two minutes of a single practice session an Astra coupé).

This bloke is mad!!
Look at Andrew Jordan - learnt the ropes in a BTC car, now driving a S2000 Vectra...
BTC cars are the perfect place to learn the BTCC!! Ban this idiot i think

But they will get fazed out eventually, it's just a way it's gonna be. It happens to oldish cars all the time (Well, except the MG ZS) :D

The BTCC spec cars have got a weight break for this year - 25kgs off. This should help close the grid up. I think the base weight of the BTCC cars have been increased each year previously.
