Heres a topic ive been meaning to post for a while but just keep forgetting to. Im a big racing car simulator fan (just ask my friends) and just thought i would give you this for some thought.

Whats been the most difficult car to drive on a racing simulator but which is also bearable as well. For example with me its from Gran Tursimo 1 and the Nissan GT-R limited edition (Skyline) which I think costs £500,000 on the game. When you drive it you can only just control it as its fast, understeers in the corner on entry, oversteers on exit with too much accerlator and likes to bounce onto two wheels if you hit the curve or go near it!. Just love driving it as i just say "Your not getting the better of me!!!"

Mine are the DTM cars on Race Driver 2... They are dogs to control, but if everythng falls into place, they are great

Also the Aussie V8's in Race Driver 3....

BMW E90 WTCC in RACE07 is one that i just cant get the hang of, after driving the fwd cars (even though i use F1 cars and stuff on rFactor) i always end up with the rear end locking under brakes and spinning out. Or you forget ur driving a rwd car and u full throttle out of a corner and end up so sideways u cant correct it

For me and for about the last 10 years it's been the TVR Speed12 on GT1,2,3,4, ToCA World Touring Cars, ToCA Race Driver 2&3 & Forza2

It's been the car in all those games that I've consistantly tried once, hated and put back in the garage to gather dust.

Probably because I never race with assists, and the Speed 12 is too overpowered to contemplate without TCS

Has to be on Gran Turismo when you're half way around the Nordschleife and the tyre wear goes red. That's a long limp back home to the pits...

Car on its own that's hard. Maybe the rally cars on Gran Turismo when they go from gravel to asphalt. Or maybe that's me. I don't like continually bouncing the cars off the walls to get round corners as I feel I'm cheating! I prefer to keep it on the road.

Have to agree that TVR Speed12 is a nasty machine to drive as well

I agree, I couldn't keep a hold of the BMW 320si on RACE07, or the 320i (E46) for that matter.

I've organised an STCC league on RACE07/STCC game and watching some of the swedes who've joined it control their BMWs is a sight to see! It resulted in 2 BMW race wins at Falkenburg last wednesday, I don't know how they do it! The best I could do in my Chevy Lacetti was 5th and 2nd in the 2 races!

Any RWD cars on rFactor break me too... The Porsche Carerra Cup 2007 is particularly tricky. Even with the G25 racing wheel it's hard work, but very rewarding when you string a lap together!

Those of you who think these 'semi-sims' and arcade racers (such as Gran Turismo, Race Driver/GRiD series (worst of the lot)), I suggest you get a decent steering wheel (Logitech DFP or Momo or G25 - don't go cheap, they're not as good), also get rFactor and/or RACE07/STCC Game and then say those so called sims are realistic. ;) :D

No thanks, I'll stick to looking forward to RACE Pro arriving in a couple of weeks, my Fanatec Wheel arriving in a couple of months, Beta Testing Supercar Challenge soon and being happy in the fact that I will have the most realistic Sim racing experience out there without the dramas and expense of needing to upgrade my PC, then suffering compatibility issues, Comms dramas, downloading dodgy Mods, picking up spyware causing D.I.G.A and all of the other issues that PC gaming creates.

I'll be keeping my PC for computing and my consoles for gaming thanks.

All those PC games are great I'm sure, but Consoles are catching up now. The Games you've mentioned are a poor example, Gran Turismo is advertised as a "Driving Simulator" which it is, it's not a racing Sim, GRiD has never been advertised as a Sim of any sort, instead Ralf Fulton & Codies decided to appeal to the mass arcade market and the American market, hence the dumbing down.......which they have done admirably (Not my cup of tea, I hated the game but I can see where they were going with it)

Back on topic.....................I always enjoy the challenge of driving Porsches/RUF's/Gemballa's in Games, they're an aquired taste and quite a handful, but really rewarding when you get to grips with 'em.

The Minis in Race 07, I'm not quite sure why I can't drive them, I'm fine in the BMWs, Radicals and even F3000s but I just can't get the hang of the minis. I have trouble with the Chevy WTCC car as well, the back end just always seem to go really light and just snap around.

most of the cars on rfactor with assists off have a habit of biting back especially the Porsche Carrera Cup ones.

It has to be the Suzuki Escudo Hill Climb car from Gran Turismo 2, 3 & 4. Easy to win races with as you couldn't steer, just hit x and bounced off all the walls!!!

Thats fair enough, but I'll stick to my pc and games where I can find nearly any track in the world and race cars from series all over the world on any of them, even mix series as well as the ability to change all sorts of aspects of it. Something that even Race Pro won't allow. I don't suffer from most of the problems you list, maybe occasional issues with connection with online gaming (Surely thsi would be the same with a console?) and occasional mod problems which I can often fix myself. (Again something you can't do on a console.)

I've never understood how they can call GT a driving simulator either as whenever I've driven any of the cars I've driven in reality they don't feel at all like them!

Anyway back on topic. (Before it turns into a PC vs console debate entirely!):)

The 1979 Formula one cars in Rfacotr are total beasts but are very fast when you finally get it right. I'd also mention, the Legends, The DTM cars, The 88 GP cars, the GP2's and the Ferrari 430's! I guess I should also mention the porsche cup cars which initially seem to want to spin at every corner but once you get the braking and acceleration corrrect are extremely quick!:D

I've just thought of some more too but I should leave it there!

I hate all cars on Race 07 apart from the Lacetti

Cant handle em or keep losing the back end.. not used to rear wheel drive i guess

Ive always found the Lexus IS200 on Forza to be the easiest RWD car for me to drive. It just lacked speed out of the corners for me, it was great at overtaking in them, but couldnt carry the speed out of them.

I liked the BMW 320si E46 on the Race 06 game. Was easy for me to handle, especially with the keyboard :)

I've got that carset on GTR2 and I must say I think it's my personal favourite, I don't know how the physics compare with Rfactor but I've never found them that hard to drive.

Has to be trying to get the Dodge charger round Bathurst on the first race driver, which after 3 sequels is still the best. At times the charger feels wider than the narrow track!
Also on GT4, doing the road rally courses through Alpine Villages in a small lightweight sportscar, such as the Ginetta, Elise or the Suzuki thing with GSX-R bike engine.

Being a long time sim racer or moreso a racer what with the original ToCA and my favourite ToCA 2 by Codemasters I am really looking forward to the release of Race Pro mainly because it's just about pure racing. The Simbin boys and girls were never one to let their games be all shine and no substance, caring more about the handling and racing rather than what bodykit or turbo you were running.

I agree with the above though, if you have a decent PC then stick to those sims as of course you guys got your modding and skins and choice of wheels but if like me you use a PC for work and a console for chilling then Race Pro can't come quick enough! Hoping they might release a BTCC 90's Championship in the future though.

PS: There's a demo coming this week or next supposedly!

Just read that when the demo for Race Pro was delayed in December, there was no fixed date for the demo, but Atari have said 'a release window of late January 2009'
It was also mentioned that the game is being released in Europe on the 13th February and in the USA is being released on the 17th February.

There was also a video released showing Porto. And I have to say it looks immaculate, and extremely difficult by the looks of it. Im going to have some trouble hot lapping there :p
