Check out the Toca news page, it says that Paul Wallace will partner Pyper in the 2nd Astra as the Production title is more or less out of reach now. Gary Ayles is also thinking of changing his 156s to ETCC spec so he can run them in the BTCC.
So, 1 less Proddie car, but Team Varta will have a 307 for Edwards, the Accord for Richard Marsh, and a 306 for Jay Wheals. Whoever he is.
Roll on Croft!

well Richard Marsh was in the Porsches until that crump at Brands, Jay Wheals is/was Proton champ.
Excellent news - we might have lost a couple but we gain 2 more and the pink pug makes a re-appearance (though I doubt it will be pink)

Where you got to know all that cos is anyones guess, but all I know of the 'Proddies' as you call it, is that as I look at the standings championship on Ceefax GA have made the right move I think. Mr Ryan was, as a new driver a risky choice and has proved that by being far the most inconsitent driver by not even getting in any points. A more experienced hand may just give the team the drive (sorry about the pun) that they need to give someting to cheer about. 45 points all season is poor. And who better than Pyper. He leads the Indies by a full 15 points.
And what of Team Varta? Replacing Jim Edwards for Marsh. Is that a good idea? He is 4th in the Proddie race with 56. points. A very credible position considering what the Proddies have to work with? Would an unknown like Marsh really make the team better when TV are joint level with Edenbridge on 91, but have the advantage in 2nd?

Varta aren't replacing Edwards with Marsh; Edwards' new 307 will be ready by Croft, so the Honda Accord he was driving will be free for Marsh.

Are you chaps getting confused between Paul Wallace and Chris Ryan?
Sort it out please!
Suggest you read the press release again and calm down.
Thanks
PS - MGMad, press release is on the TOCA News page.

I think that it's great news that Varta are having 4 cars at the next round, if the BMW isn't able to race, which is a possibilty, then there will only be 2 production teams out there!!. I don't blame GA for looking forward and planing for 2004, Paul hasn't got a chance to close the gap on the top of the championship so he may as well concentrate on preparing for next season. Would be good if they could find another couple of drivers to put out in the Alfa's to boost the grid.

I think it should be pretty busy in the Varta garage at Croft.
Richard is a really nice chap - I've know him for some years now having driven with Maxi and Nick in Fiestas and then Porsches.
What I want is that picture with Tom and Richard - talk about David and Goliath. Thank goodness Richard is in the Honda ;)

Apparently the 2nd 307 isn't quite ready so Edwards will still be in the Accord and Richard Marsh (not Wheals) will get the 306.
There should also be a new team/driver combination - Jason Hughes and his Kartworld Racing team are fielding a #99 Nissan Primera.

This is what the Team Varta boss John Bachelor said in the press release:
ìFour cars also give us a much stronger chance to pick up extra points in the Production class teamsÃ* championship.
ìJim, meanwhile, has worked wonders in the Accord, which is not the most competitive car out there, to stay in the hunt for the Production class driversÃ* title. TomÃ*s wins clearly demonstrated the potential of the 307 and, with them both now in Peugeots, they can work together as a team to close on the leaders."
I am not really interested in the Production Class so I don't know what is going on with Team Varta. How many TV cars will be at Croft? What cars will they be? Is he saying he will scrap the Accord for Croft? What? I am confused with Team Varta's decision.
But it to me shows that the class is prepared to make serious steps to making it an interesting and competitive class. But at the same time by making such radical decisions in such a short space of time between each other are they perhaps allienating somewhat fans by all this confusion?

it is good to have an extra tourer on the grid! and as for the production class the extra cars will add to the grid but i don't really think that they will make a difference to the production 3- way battle between bentwood, boardman and hines. good luck to them anyway

Lauz,
Make it a 4 way scrap in the Production class and include Alan Blencowe who has 6 top 3 finishes this year and is only a handful of points off the lead.

I believe the plan from the beginning of the season was to run Jim Edwards in the Accord, then put him in a 307 when VLR had finished building/preparing it. However, this new 307 has been delayed, so Edwards will still be in the Accord, but Richard Marsh should be in Tom Boardman's old 306 from 2001.
Well, that's the plan, it's all a bit confusing, as Marsh was meant to be in the Accord if Edwards got his 307...

Not confusing at all. Pretty straight forward if you ask me. People get their knickers in a twist so easily ...
Edwards in a (reliable) 307 would win the Production class. A very canny driver ...

heart breaking to see Jim still in the Accord - it must be so demoralising for him. When he does get the Pug I can see a few 1 & 2s on the podium :)
but good luck to Richard in the 306. Hopefully he will pedal it as quick as he did the fiesta.

Hopefully he will pedal it as quick as he did the fiesta.
Hope not....he was dire in 2000.
