If you went to Rockingham for the first time last weekend what did you think?

And for those who thought there wouldnt be much action, have you changed your opinion??? ;)

bramble, hello
My earlier post, "breathless", should give you a clue or two about
my first visit to Rockingham and the impressions I took away.

I had never been to Rockingham before the weekend and really look forward to going back there. Fantastic for the fans as you can pretty much see the whole track wherever you are. It's the sort of place that pleases and pulls a crowd and the facilities are better than Silverstone. My verdict.................Fantastic more please.:)

There was action yes, but the vast majority of it happened after the safety car had bunched the field up, because they did get spread out.

I had been waiting for the day at Rockingham with anticipation. A circuit that was really close to me. I was not disapointed, a fabulous weekend, brilliant views of the circuit excellent facilitiesand to cap it all ..... stunning racing ( esp Matt Neil, pity about race 2).

Cant wait to go back to the circuit:)

Cleland Fan, was the spreading out of the field, any worse than circuits like Thruxton or Silverstone ? On Sunday I thought there was all sorts going on all over the circuit. So much so, it was diffcult at times to know which scraps to focus on. Deene, Tarzan
and Turn Four are worthy of particular mention.

Am considering going back for the ASCAR Days of Thunder meeting. Different racing I appreciate but bound to be worth a watch.

You'll have to put up with Liberty X... (Music Cuts In ;) )

Don't worry mate - you can't hear any music except those 20 plus V8's doing 150 or more!!!:D

We went to the first rounds this year and I didn't hear any music all day!

I have never been to Rockingham but I completely agree with all of you. It is a great circuit.

Agreed, Alan - what better music than 22 small-block Chevy V8's at full chat down the pit straight! Mmmmmmmmmmm :) (Was I the only one who thought that the Tourers sounded just that little bit weedy...)

Seriously, if you liked Rockingham for the BTCC, you'll love it for an ASCAR meeting. Best action in Turns 1 & 4, best watched from the top of the pits garages. Watch the cars trade paint, rub the wall, spin... Added to that, you can get up close to the cars, chat to the drivers and generally soak up the atmosphere.

Give it a try - I doubt you'll regret it. In fact, you're likely to get as hooked on it as I am...

i went to the first ascar meeting and it was appaling. there was only about 8 racing laps the rest were under safety car. the schedule ran over half an hour late before the day started for some reason and it was overrun with five year olds running round after busted.
The BTCC just showed ascar up right in its own home

ok ,that wasn't the best start to the ascar season but the schedule ran beind for a couple of reasons.
firstly the pickups were using the full oval for the first time in anger and having done quicker times than were expected they had to evaluate the tyres. as anyone who saw the problems that the btcc had at thruxton with tyres you can appreciate that it was better to be safe than sorry . this also resulted in the first race changing from "race" to practice.
secondly the inexperience of the rookies this year in ascar resulted in several spins and subsequent needs for recoveries(kevin clarke being the most evident). as the rookies gain experience this situation will change.
as far as the 5yr olds go, i don't like hyper kids either but they bring adults who pay to get in and who knows they might actually come back which will keep the circuit alive.
weather permitting, the 27th july should be a cracker.

They are expecting a capacity crowd for the GT/F3 event in August - tickets are just £1!
